Default LED conversion kit

Can someone recommend a good LED conversion kit for my `99TA? I saw what looked light a good kit for 199 but thought I'd reach out and get some first hand experience. The headlight is a H4703.

Thanks.

Get LMC Truck conversion housings and use a LED bulb that has the LEDs aligned in a thin trip to emulate the shape of the original bulb filament. Or stick with Halogen bulbs in those housings.

The LMC Truck housings are direct fit, but you'll have to replace the bulb connector on the car with 9006 or 9005 connectors for low beam and high beam respectively . They make a low beam and high beam version. I have the High beam on my car with LED. My Low Beam are HID Projectors.

The LMC truck headlights are designed for 9006/9005 bulbs and on the Firebird you'll need the version with the straight connector. 9012/9011 will fit but you'll need to trim the bucket/holder on the car for the bulb to fit since it is right angle. You'll have to trim the bucket for LED too since they have wide heat sinks and fans at the back.

Awesome ... thanks for the reply. I'll be glad to replace the connectors as well. What has brought me to this are a few things. The halogens are so dim on this car and with only one low beam working, it's even worse. A few weeks ago my left headlight goes out and I notice that the connector is burnt, so I replace the connector and the headlight has been intermittent since, and now dead. I pulled the connector and it looks janky as hell to me. As an engineer, I feel that's a pretty weak connection. Also the new connector has a tab that limits the depth that the headlight leads go into the connector. That's a Dorman part. I cut that one off and went to direct solder it to the headlight and it must be aluminum because it won't take.... sigh. So I figure it's time for an upgrade.

So the 36-0302 is a direct fit with no modifications other than the connector? Is that an improvement over stock? The connector looks like it has locking tabs. That alone would be an upgrade as I see it. Is it throwing out more lumens/photons than stock?

That little tab is normal. The originals have that as well. I trimmed it off mine for a better connection years ago, but now neither headlight has the original connector type anymore anyway.

Yes. Physically same size.

Yes. The 9005 & 9006 bulbs are brighter than the original H4701 & H4703 sealed beam headlights. If you trim the bucket behind the headlight to fit 9011 & 9012 bulbs, that will be even brighter.

Yes. They are a locking connector which will give a much more secure connection.

Did you order the version of the bulbs with straight connectors or right-angle connectors? The straight connectors will fit the car without any trimming. The right angle-connector version will need trimming to fit.

A relay harness with thicker gauge wire can help as well. I have that on mine.

I ordered the 37-0300 with the 36-0302 so that looks to be plug and play. As far as I know those are straight. Even just that will be a heck of an upgrade.

Getting my driver's headlight just working was an upgrade. The aftermarket connector was just so loose, connection wise. I couldn't solder direct to the headlight but I could wrap some wire on each lead and solder that up, essentially tightening it up onto the headlight lead. A little janky ... but the cops won't be pulling me over!!

I just got the 9006s in. Haven't been out of the dark yet. I do have the 9012s .... so if I want to go brighter, I'll break out the dremel tool for that right angled connector.
The brights are still the stock housing. While I'm at it, I'll probably replace the fogs.
