Radio for trans am Hey guys, I have a 93 trans am and was wondering about my sound system. I was looking at head units and how will I know which ones will fit my car? I currently have an old Dual unit that barely works and I want something like a pioneer or Kenwood. The fitment into the dash and how I can get an adapter for a radio just confuses me. Can someone tell me how this can work? Thanks

The head unit mounting and wiring is the same for all Firebirds from '93 - '02 (unlike Camaros which are different '93 - '97 versus '98 - '02). You can use the same double DIN mounting kits, trim bezels, and wiring harness adapters as are discussed extensively in this section. Just do a search for "double DIN" and you'll find plenty of information. The parts are available on Amazon and many other online sources as well as many auto parts stores and even WalMart.
Now's the time to modernize! I put a Double DIN radio in my '98 Z28 with back-up camera, full blue tooth connectivity to my phone, etc. and it makes a world of difference in bringing the F-Body up to current standards. If cost is a concern, you can find used Double DIN Pioneer DVD decks on eBay from a few years ago for $100 these days. Once Apple Car play came out around '14 or '15, the standard Double DIN Pioneer HU's really dropped in price. I have the Pioneer AVH-X2600BT which is NOT a Car Play HU, but still has great blue tooth features with my phone, and lets me have a back up camera ($10 - $15 on eBay) .
