Default New engine install wiring.

The car is a 2001 Trans Am. I am installing a new crate motor fully dressed. Im thinking of re-tuning if that will work. It will have its own fuel injection system. If not it can be installed as a stand alone setup. The question is how to have the car electrical system still function. Lights, wipers, horn, abs, etc. Im open to all ideas.

You will need to bypass the BCM (body control module under the arm rest) as this handles most of the electronics you mentioned BUT, it "talks" directly to the ECU/PCM for things like VATS and I believe cruise control. There are VATS bypass write ups on the forum so the ignition would work and this keeping your lighting and most other electrics operational. Not sure how the PCM would work if the ECU is "different".

There would be no need to bypass or eliminate the BCM for an engine replacement . It's a body control module and is unrelated to engine management other than enabling fuel via VATS. If the car starts now (correct key or VATS bypass installed) then everything else will be fine. If the new PCM needs the fuel enable signal then the BCM will provide it and if not, it can just be ignored.

Lights, wipers, etc. are all independent and don't need either the BCM or the PCM to function.

Just leave the factory BCM and the body wiring in the car. If you are adding a new/different ECU to run the motor stand alone, pretty much all the other body stuff will still work once you turn the key on.

You can add a new circuit to crank the engine too if you want it working independent of the cars existing controls and wiring. Like a push button to work an added starter relay.

Same goes for fuel pump. ( But its always a good idea to have the fuel pump relay controlled by an ECU that will turn it off when the engine stops running.)
