99 camaro parking/turn signal bulb and socket burns out
Im having an issue with my parking/turn signal bulb, it eventually burns out within a couple weeks and also melts the socket housing and the inside of the lease housing. It gets pretty hot thus melting the plastic a bit and burning the bulb out.. anyone else have/had this issue? Is there a fix for this? Perhaps a different bulb? Thanks everyone for the help
Sounds like you probably have a short or something somewhere
i put an order in for LED’s yesterday and new lenses.. we shall see how it works out. Not sure if I have a shirt somewhere though.. I’ll have to look into it some more
A short could not cause this issue but the heat of the bulbs commonly does and small cracks in the lens or housing caused by the heating will allow water intrusion which will blow up the hot bulb just like your photo.
LED bulbs is a good solution for reducing the heat but don't forget to get an electronic flasher so that your turn signals will still work.
I've had this same problem and it turns out my turn signal housing had cracks in the top from heat so anytime the car got wet it would end up getting into the housing, it would eventually break the bulb, etc. The cracks were difficult to see while on the car but obvious when the assemblies were removed.
I didn't suspect the housing were cracked until I pulled the one socket and a bunch of water came out of the housing... it was full
I've since replaced the lenses and even got the LED bulb kit and its all working out very well. no water or condensation getting into the new lenses. thank you everyone who replied and helped. much appreciated
