Firebird TCS - I need the base function so I can compare
Hi,
I'm doing a little modding and needed a baseline for the stock traction control switch functionality.
1. Is the TCS light ON or OFF when you start the car?
Thank you!

- 1A. IF ON, ....(Does the TCS font AND Bar Light up or just the bar?)
- 1B IF OFF, when you click on the switch to turn it ON,.... Does the TCS font AND Bar Light up or just the bar? Does TCS appear on your gauge panel?
Thank you!

The TCS switch (and the equivalent ASR switch in Camaros) has two separate lights. The on/off indicator light (the little bar light) operates in reverse of normal indicators. Think of it as a traction control bypass switch, so when the on/off indicator light is on, the traction control system is actually off and vice versa. The label light is independently controlled by the vehicle lighting system - when the headlights or parking lights are on (i.e. whenever the dash lights are on), the switch label is illuminated, regardless of whether TCS is on or off.
When you start the car, the TCS OFF light in the instrument cluster will illuminate for about three seconds as part of the bulb test process (same as most of the other dash warning lights). The TCS switch on/off indicator light (the bar) will be off, and the switch label illumination will be on or off depending on whether the headlights are on or off. When you press the switch to turn off traction control, the on/off indicator light will turn on and the TCS OFF light in the instrument cluster will also turn on. When you press the switch again (to turn traction control back on), both the switch on/off indicator and the TCS OFF light will turn off. Again, the switch label illumination would be unchanged and only affected by the use of the headlights.
