Default Need help with an upgraded sound system

I have a 2000 Trans Am. Should I get the drop replacement speaker system from Kee Audio or should I run all new speaker wire from a new double din head unit to a custom speaker sub setup? I'm not looking to bump I just want the best quality sound experience with bass I can get. About like a really good home theater system. Should I go 6 speaker with a 10 inch or 4 speaker with the 2 sail panel woofer with a 10 inch sub? I'm totally new to sound systems and know pretty much nothing about them.

I did a full speaker replacement with kee audio, those guys are great. Then I upgraded my head unit but I still have it wired through the factory amp. Sounds awesome to me.

...it really depends on your budget and quality of sound you require... A new modern double DIN HU is awesome in our 4th Gens! All the modern features with hands free, bluetooth, back up camera, etc., and if done correctly, can really look amazing in the the dash. So what kind of budget are you looking at, and why type of music do you listen to?

I’ve got Kee Audio speakers with a 10” sub. I’m not really happy with my high end at high volume which I blame on the stock head unit instead of the speakers. I like the factory look of the stock head unit for some odd reason, so it’s holding me back from changing it out. If I was going for a “best” build, I’d replace the head unit, abandon the Monsoon amp, and rewire the car to run entirely off an aftermarket amp(s). The Monsoon system is tricky because of the speaker resistance, you should read up on it if you haven’t.

Thanks for the replies. After doing some research I think I might just go with an aftermarket amp for the speakers and a 10" subwoofer. I'm also doing the double din touchscreen install as well.

I have a cam only car with a catless SLP loudmoth exhaust. Do you guys think going all out on a sound system for my car would still be worth it given how loud my car is? I can hardly talk on the phone while I'm on the interstate. I love how loud the car is though. I'm not complaining about the sound, just providing context for my question.

It comes down to how much you value being able to hear your music over your car verse the cost to upgrade your stereo. The short comings of my stereo are only realized when I’m driving with windows down, but it doesn’t upset me enough to drop $400 on a radio.

I don’t know if you’ve bought already but I would suggest going with a 12” sub over a 10” boxes will be similar sized anyways and price ,if you want it to sound like a good home surround deal they can get pretty pricey $$ the best way to do it if you don’t want to spend a lot or deal with three amps ,electric crossovers,DSP and a lot of wiring and electrical upgrades get a good head unit w/sub control built in and 5 low outs L/R F L/R R and sub.and a single 5 ch amp and every thing happens there ….just don’t mount the amp on the sub box and use your stock speaker at first if you want?

Thanks. I'll use some of these ideas for sure. I'm using a Kicker Key200.4 for spaeakers and a Rockford Fosgate Prime amp for the sub. I was already thinking of where I could put a custom made amp board that would not take up any trunk space and that method you have looks to be helpful.

Good advice. Unfortunately I already have the 10" box and a 10" 300W rms sub I'm going to try to use. If it doesn't turn out to be enough bass I'll change the sub out to a larger cone size and more RMS watts.
