2002 trans am turn signal socket
unfortunately, my driver side turn signal (DRL) stopped working (it’s the yellow light), it’s working fine on the passenger side though, I have a set of extra light bulbs and I thought it would be an easy fix, I noticed that the turn signal socket has corrosion and it looks to be charred or burnt, and the bulb it self has the same corrosion as well.
should I just buy a new socket and remove the old one? Which one should I buy? Not looking for a cheap one though, I’d rather spend the money for a good product.
I read online that you can remove the old socket and reuse the same wires without the need to splice any wires. Could someone please explain to me how to do that? I’d rather reuse the same wires and not splice them.
i live overseas, and my options are very limited with parts if any here in UAE, I can ship from USA if needed.
I appreciate your help guys.
in the meantime I’ll be putting everything back together and not try to change the bulb because I believe that due to the corrosion and moisture it will happen again.
I would first try cleaning it with electrical cleaner. spray it, let it soak, and clean the contacts and insides with a tooth brush. get it as clean as you can. Let it dry completely. Then install a new bulb, and see if it works. If not, you will have to find a new bulb housing.

I’m thinking about ordering the turn signal housing (lenses) from Depo, I already have 2brand new bulbs,
but not sure what turn signal socket I should buy, I’ll search to see if standard has them. Or if you have any other suggestions, I appreciate it.
I found one from 269 Motorsport. Has anybody tried them?
thanks guys

I read the above sticky thread, so I can basically use the new socket with the factory wires without any splicing? But does the socket have to be the same part number 85881from Dorman for example, or does this method also works with other sockets like the one below?
IMO - the pieces in parts store pig tails seem to be lower quality plastic than the Delphi/Aptiv pieces original to the car. You can also buy the individual pieces you need from Mouser or other electronics retailers. With shipping, the cost could be higher going that route.

I ordered the lenses from Depo on Ebay, and got a pair of 269 Motorsport sockets, they have the same factory color wires as well so that’s a plus.
Currently waiting on parts to arrive, I’ll keep you guys updated, but it’s gonna take me a while to get them due to overseas shipping.

just installed the 269 Motorsports sockets, Depo DRL/turn signal lenses and new bulbs. Everything works fine now, I actually lost both turn signals a few days before installing the new parts.
I’ll keep the stock sockets after I clean them with contact or electrical cleaner just in case.
thank you all for your help
