The thing about mine is that they looked like new. Nothing falling apart, but the sound was so distorted once it hit about 25% throttle ( so to speak ) and got much worse at a higher level. I really didnt expect to put speaker in at such low mileage but had no option. The stockers are somewhat low end speakers anyway compared to the replacements, Difference is night and day with sound quality. 1 speaker went bad, passenger side. Not sure if it was sail panel of farther back, but it sounded horrible. One bad apple spoils the whole bunch style. My 78 T/A is on its 3rd set of 6X9's. Stock were still good but garbage speakers. Then Jensen replacements lasted about 20 years and fell apart, so did the cassette deck. I have high end Polk speakers( 6X9) in it now with a pioneer blue tooth/CD player HU. Sounds nice and clear.

Just my 2cents.... I am now 66 and have been playing electric guitar and Rhodes piano for years without hearing protection. Just like all those big bands from the 80, 90's, those guys have hearing loss. Just like me. Don't get a loud stereo system. Get a good one and play at normal levels. Losing your hearing is bad. very bad. Now I wear ear muffs while driving the tractor, cutting grass, blowing leaves. Anything loud and prolong loud is bad. Protect your hearing and you will be so happy when you are 20 + years from now and still enjoy your favorite music. Now I have to crank up the treble to the max to hear the cymbals being struck. Don't get there. Keep it low.

Apparently not, otherwise my 26 year old, 19k mile speakers would have worn out before your 22 year old, 7k mile speakers. Mine are still doing fine. I think ambient conditions and how they are used will play a bigger role than age alone at this vintage. At a certain point I would agree that age-related deterioration is inevitable, but mine don't seem to be at that point yet.
FWIW, I agree with the Kee upgrade. I'd go that route too, and just leave the stock HU. I haven't seen a touchscreen that looks better than the stock HU in any 4th gen, IMO.

Mine made it about 2 months when the car was new and they surrendered. Monsoon couldn't keep up with 2 10" eclipse aluminum's.
