Default Memphis audio (awesome)

Hey guys,

I had to replace the window regulator on my 35th SS, so decided to swap out the factory door speakers while I was at it because the foam surround had finally failed.

I looked high and low for replacement speakers to no avail...until I found Memphis audio. They are a little pricey but damn..they sound amazing!

I found the VIV60V2. These are 6.5" two-way speakers at 2ohms. I can't say enough about how well they fit this stock Monsoon unit.

Just cut the factory speaker harness off of the old speakers and solder onto the new speakers. Simple as that. They fit the factory speaker housing perfectly.

Separate woofer/tweeter posts.

Just to clarify for those who may not know... by "two-way" you're actually referring to component speakers which match the factory setup rather than the more common coaxial speakers which don't. That's a great find - I was unaware that Memphis made convertible component sets like that. But you're right about them being costly (more than twice the price of the CDT convertible components many members here have used).

Yes. These are separately wired for the tweeter and woofer.

They are absolutely amazing.

Yup... sometimes it's worth paying extra to get the better product.

WhiteBird,

Based on your experience, what range of RMS wattage for a subwoofer seems to be adequate for the sail panel woofer channels in the Camaro with the stock Monsoon amp?

The Monsoon amp is rated at 240 watts RMS into eight channels (GM publicized 500 watts at one time but that's a BS peak rating). That would be 30 watts RMS per channel. In a Firebird with dual voice coil subs in the sail panels that would be 60 watts each side, but the Camaro only had single voice coil subs so 30 watts each side.
