Changed out the alternator and found 2 wires attached to the charge post of the alternator, a “alt charge” wire and a “bypass” wire. I have never wired an alternator this way nor seen it wired this way.
I was able to trace the bypass wire to a battery + junction box, however I cannot trace back the alt charge wire which is strange to me.
The battery is in the trunk so nothing is directly connected to it. Off the starter, there is a battery + wire, a “power solenoid” wire (assuming this wire is powering the fuse panel inside the car) and a ign trigger wire.
I’ve disconnected the bypass wire from the alt and the battery + junction box. Question, since I cannot trace back the alt charge wire, can I just cut off the ring terminal on the alt charge wire, tape it off, and get it out of the way without hurting anything? I’m wanting to install a Mechman 240 amp and run a 2g wire from the alt to the starter battery + post and be done with it. Thanks in advance
.
Are there any after market accessories the prior owner installed that you know of? those wires likely power something, or did anyways.
Yeah you can cut the rings off and tape them back.
Currently, I’m redoing the positive wires from the battery to the alternator, starter, and fuse block. I too found an aftermarket wire attached directly to the alternator positive post where it traced back to the electric cutout on the exhaust. Ive since relocated this wire.
