Default Key fob programming

Hey fellas, I've got a 2002 Firebird (v6 if that matters) that I just can't get this key fob to connect to it, I've followed the steps of
turning key from off to run
taking radio fuse out
then cycling the key off to run 3 times in 5 seconds
then holding the key fob lock and unlock for 15 seconds
the car doesn't even lock and unlock the doors after the 3rd step I'm not too sure on what causes that.

Assuming that your car is equipped with keyless entry (option code AU0 - standard on all V8 models but optional on V6) and that you have the correct remote transmitter fob (buying aftermarket can be risky) and that it has a fresh battery, then it is likely that you're missing a step in the programming - probably not starting with the ignition off after step #1.

1. Turn the ignition key to RUN, then to OFF. This will disarm the content theft-deterrent/alarm system (if equipped).

2. Remove the RADIO fuse. This fuse is located in the main fuse block which is located on the left side of your instrument panel.

3. Turn the ignition key from OFF to RUN three times quickly (within five seconds). Leave the ignition in RUN. The vehicle will respond by locking the doors, unlocking the driver’s door and releasing the hatch. Your transmitter is now ready to match the vehicle. If you do not get this response then there is no point in moving to the next step... try starting over again.

4. Press and hold the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons on the first transmitter for 15 seconds. The vehicle will respond as in Step 3.

5. Repeat Step 4 for the remaining transmitters.

6. When you have finished matching all of your transmitters, turn the ignition off and replace the RADIO fuse.

7. Check that all transmitters work by pressing the buttons.
The system is very fussy about this sequence being performed exactly as listed and most failures are due to missing a step or doing one out of sequence. Of course other factors can be involved such as a faulty BCM, but that is quite unusual. Also, if you're having issues with VATS (the SECURITY light is on or flashing in your instrument cluster) then you will never be able to program remotes until the VATS issue is resolved.

Interesting, I didn't know the v6s were optional for that. How can you know if your car was optioned with that? Also I was putting the ignition to off in the first step, sorry just forgot about it when I was writing this post. The security light is not on nor flashing, and has never been on since I've owned the car.

Oh wait, I didn't see you say the option code, haha. Are the option codes written in the glove box?

Check for the option code UA0 on the left door label to confirm if the car was equipped with factory keyless entry.
