Default cd changer input 4 XM

Hey guys I just ordered the Roady 2 because I want to be able to switch cars easily and take it to work, but maintain the small size. Right now I have an eclipse CD 3421, which has CD changer controls. Is there a way to use the cd changer control cable to make a direct connection of the roady 2? If not I am gonna go with an EQ with an AUX IN.
Another question, is there a way to hardwire the roady 2 instead of using the cig adapter?

I just checked out www.myradiostore.com for PIE and Blitzsafe adapters to convert the Eclipse CD Changer port to AUX-IN, but I didnt find anything.

To hook it up directly to power, you can use the 12v and Ground sources behind the radio. You can find a wiring diagram here:

For everyone else, this conversation actually started here:

Careful!!! The original Roady takes a 6V power supply so check the Roady 2 to make sure that you won't be frying it by connecting to a 12V source.

The cigarette lighter adapter that comes with it has a built-in transformer and so is somewhat larger than your typical cigarette plug. Also, the hard-wired FM modulator that they sell for it has the transformer so that you can eliminate the lighter plug. You can get a universal 12V-to-6V adapter from Radio Shack that can be wired behind the dash or under the console so that you can eliminate the lighter plug adapter.

I am surprised that the power converter is in the plug instead of in the Roady. I guess that keeps it samller and cooler (temperature-wise I mean).

Anyway...
You can disassemble the plug adapter and use its power converter instead of buying another one.

cool, thanks for the ideas. Yes the Roady2 does use a 6-volt, thats why i was asking. I will have to go check out radioshack. Another question - will I run another power cable to the battery, or where can I get the 12volt connection? Can i just tap into another wire?

You can tap into the yellow wire at the back of the radio. This is an ignition/accy controlled 12V source - it is live whenever the key is on or in the accy position as well as while the retained accessory power is active (for the 10 minutes after turning off the car before opening a door).

Did you read my first post above? It says that you can use the 12v source to the radio. I even provided a wiring diagram.

yes, good point, forgot about it b/c it is a 6v power supply, but then the 12v ---> 6v from radio shack was brought in, thanks for the wiring diagram, it will be helpful once i get the 12-6 converter.

A cheaper option (but not as secure) would be to buy one of those cigarette lighter outlet extension kits (basically an insulated lighter socket with two wires) from your local parts store. Patch it into the appropriate power and ground wires then plug the original Roady adapter into it. Tuck the whole thing behind the dash and it will look like a hard-wired setup. Be sure to leave air space around it as the step-down transformer generates heat that needs to be disipated.
