Wiring up amp (HELP)
Wiring up amp (HELP) im replacing all my speakers in my car and have a question about the amp, its a 4 channel ma audio m489i, the rear speakers are infinity kappa 4x6 plates, the sides are kappa 2 ways, and the doors are kappa componets, im going to run the rears and the sides on the 2 rear channels (2 speakers/channel) and the componets of the front 2 channels. on the rears do i need to wire the left side together and the right side together, or the plates together and the 2ways together. the amp is 2ohm stable but the speakers are 4ohm, do i need to wire them in series or parallel???
Personally, I'd wire up the side and rear speakers on the same side together...that way you'll still be able to control your balance left to right and have stereo. You'll want to wire them up in parallel which will drop the impedance to 2 ohms, although you might want to pay close attention to what your gains on your amp are set at so that the "back" channels at 2 ohm don't play louder than the "front" channels still at 4 ohms. Of course if you wired them up in series and got 8 ohms, the fronts at 4 ohms might play louder which would be more desirable than vice versa...it's up to you.
the rear channels of the amp will be at 2 ohms, thus the amp will make more power, but it will be split between two speakers, so they will still get around the same as they would at 4 ohms.
