Default Proper way to charge Optima???

So i have an Optima Red Top that is new but has been sitting for a while

What is the proper way to fully charge it?
My charger is an older Sears/Craftsman unit which is 12v and charges at 40amps and engine starts at 200amps
Being so...what's the correct time amount to charge it?

Thanks

Well a deep charge can be done to recharge a "customers" dead unchargable battery. But if it still holds a charge a regular charger on low will work. If you store it for a long time or in extreme cold. use a trickle charger or remove the battery.

And people say don't even set it on the ground?!?

put it on your battery charger for a bit.

Yes, put on a charger on low and that will do the trick.

they do not like to be charged at below 10 amps. 40 will do. just keep an eye on it,should be an amp gauge on the charger.

optima red top batteries have to be charged with another battery upstream from it if it is below 10 volts. If you have more than 10 volts trickle charge on 2-10 amps overnight, and check the voltage regularly.

Put in the oven at 350 for about 15 mintues till the battery is a golden brown color.

Seriously though. Its almost impossible to tell you how long to charge a battery. If its fell below a certian voltage it may not come back and hold a charge. Your best bet is to put it on a slow/trickle charge for a day or so. Measure the voltage, wait a few hours and measure the voltage again to see if its losing its charge. Keep it off cement when your charging it.
