Question Wiring Valentine 1 in Tahoe

I am hardwiring my V1 in my 2003 Tahoe. I am running the wire down the driver's pillar. What wire do I splice into that is an IGN connection, that is, a connection that is powered when the engine is on, but power turns off when the engine is off? If anyone has pictures, that would be awesome. I am going to try to wire it inside of the driver's side fuse box panel at the end of the dash. Thanks.

Just find a switched on fuse in the fuse box. I hard wired mine into my 02 Silverado through the fuse box, haven't had any problems. Need to get another wiring kit so I can hard wire it into my SS also.

How do I connect it to the switched on fuse? Do I just use the wire splice provided?

I just pulled the fuse, stuck the wire in, and put the fuse back in. You can buy special taps if you want made for that purpose, but as long as the wire is securely in there, I see no need.

Thats a terriable way of doing stuff.

I would take a volt meter and with the ignition on, find a wire under the dash that has +12v. Then turn the key off, if it still has voltage solder that wire in there. Then all you have is the ground.

Also, do the colors of the wires mean anything? I know that black is usually ground, but am I looking for a particular color that is a typical 12v IGN wire, or do I just start testing them all? Thanks.

For a very low current application such as a radar detector, I always use the 12V switched coming out of your stereo. If you have an aftermarket stereo it's always much easier. It's always the red wire on the aftermarket wiring harness. You will have red for 12v switched, yellow for 12v constant, black for ground, etc etc.

If you don't have an aftermarket headunit, this of course wouldn't apply. But if you do, this makes it a lot easier. My escort 8500 is wired through the headunit and works great.

If you have the stock deck, I'd do what 2MuchRice said and just get a voltmeter or test light and find a wire that will do what you want. Ground the other one and you are all set to go. Good luck!

Default Installed!!!

I installed it this afternoon. I went by RadioShack and bought a $6 tester to find a IGN wire (one that has power when the car is running, but does not when the car is turned off). I ran the wire over the headlines and down the pillar and into the dash. It took all of 30 minutes; very easy install. Here are some pics of it installed. Sorry, I forgot to take pics along the way, but if you have any questions, PM me. http://img175.imageshack.us/gal.php?...7sw.jpg&cols=4
