Radar Detector Poll

The Best V8 Stories One Small Block at Time
In the end it was the cash and some special considerations by Escort. After a long talk with the Escort sales rep they ended up tossing in the smart cord, an extended warranty and a 70 day trial. I got these things because I expressed a lack of confidence due to an older unit I had registered with them years ago that SUCKED. I sent it in twice and it came back with a "No problem found" note. I had also waited too long and the trial period had ran out. So this time I started out with, "I just cannot believe I am even speaking to you people about considering another one of your products!".So I guess they had lots of confidence in the 8500 X50, gave me the extras and a discount.
OK, now the report. Since getting the unit I have made two 1000 mile round trips from above Atlanta to Tampa all on I-75 and as fast as I could run. Before you guys beat on me for speeding off the track I'll tell you I do not pressure other drivers by blowing the horn, tail gating, flashing lights or making rude gestures. I wait for my opening and I get her up there when I have the space. I am attaching an image of one of my Tampa trip GPS records. I have averaged faster and made in in 5-hours & 50-minutes moving time.
I'll tell you unless it breaks down I am not returning it. The unit is awesome! There are lots of opportunities in the to-and-from 500 mile runs to test her. And when going through Atlanta I found out they are using POP. The unit comes defaulted with POP disabled but I enabled it and I caught them using the instant-on thing at me before they could get me. The range is great. They have lots of K-Band dummy radar traps that display your speed and they were picked up more than 2 miles out. I caught lots of Ka signals in more than enough time and some while going speeds up to 125mph. (My tires are "H" rated at 130mph)
I am usually more conservative at night but this unit gave me enough confidence to let her go after dark.
The unit has Auto, Highway and City modes. Escort recommends leaving the unit in Auto and I did. When I am in my home area and off the big highway I run it in City mode. False signals are not a problem, only surfacing in obvious areas like near Hospitals and such. Having the smart cord located within easy reach is nice so to mute it without leaning forward. Even in Highway mode the falsies are few between.
That's my report. I would like to test a V! though. I make the trip 4 and 5 times a year.
