I have XM and like it.
Some people prefer Sirius.

I know I an not helping much.
All I can say is "Listen to both and decide for yourself".

Here is some help:
(mostly about install, but I found some about which people prefer)

Another note:
XM has about tripple the people signed up as Sirius.

More like double as of end of March (Sirius 1.5 million, XM 3.2 million). That probably doesn't make as much difference now as it did when the services were first getting started. Both are predicting being in the black by next year and both have deals with major auto manufacturers to install their systems in new cars. So, chances are that both will be around for the foreseeable future.

XM no longer has the pricing advantage that it did until a few days ago - as of April 2nd both services are $12.95 per month. I've had both services and personally prefer Sirius but either one is a good choice. Sirius finally has a small plug-and-play receiver (StarMate) to compete with the Roady.

I have XM and like it. If you're a sports fan, XM has signed a contract to broadcast all MLB games and Sirius has one with the NFL I believe. Sirius also signed with Howard Stern...I personally don't like him but it's supposed to bring a bunch of people to Sirius.

i've had xm since it's inception and i like it just fine (compared to fm). and the only reason xm has twice as many subscriptions is the head start it had (over a year). it really depends on what you listen to. i've hear sirius is better for hip-hop/rap and that's what i listen to. we're getting sirius for my wife's car so i can decide for myself which is better. but either way you go, they're both better than fm.

Fierce-LS1: do you listen to rap and hip-hop? how are the playlists in general? a lot of reapeats? do they play a lot of "chart toppers" that are in CONSTANT circulation on fm?

2MuchRiceMakesMeSick: have you had xm for a long time? have you noticed that the playlists are getting shorter? i listen to 66 raw most of the time and i've noticed a lot more repeats and TOP 20 type songs you hear ALL THE TIME on fm. that's one reason i'd like to try sirius. i've noticed a downhill trend over the years i've had xm.

when xm first came out you wouldn't hear the same song twice in a week! it's still much better than fm but it seems like they're getting lazy and just following the trendy/popular songs (mosty talking about 66 raw and 67 the city).

I noticed that about XM as well. I listen to ethel (alternative music) and noticed more repeats over the recent months as well as more popular music. Last year, they would play bands that I have never heard of. I like Sirius because it provides me with more variety. For example, if I want to listen to alternative on xm, I would turn to ethel wich combines both popular bands as well a non-pop bands. However, Sirius devides this into two categories like alternative nation, underground garage, and left center. Also XM is increasing their price so people will have less incentive to get XM like they had in the past due to pricing.

As of now until april 12, XM is still requiring an additional fee to receive xm online while Sirius provides that right away with an account. But XM is changing that too and will include it in their new higher price.

It all comes down to preference. Though I hear repeats on both (maybe a repeat every 2-3 days) I just prefer sirius more. If you're into rap, sirius offers several channels but so does XM (including r&b)

Either way you can't go wrong

i have both, I sell hundreds of equipemnt for both, been listening to xm and sirius for about 2.5 years. ALL i can say is that xm is freakin repetitive, especially if u listen to rock. Go with sirius, at least with sirius u can sign up for a lifetime membership for like 499$ or something. XM is like the comcast cable of satellite radio, they are going to keep upping the rates. Im not generalizing about xm being repetive either, listen to a station for 1 day straight and ull see what i mean. Sirius is hoping to broadcast video in the future as well.

Watch out for the Sirius "lifetime" deal - it's only for the lifetime of the receiver, not your lifetime. If your receiver needs to be replaced out of warranty or you just decide to upgrade later then you have to buy a new subscription.

XM currently has NASCAR (Non Athletic Sport Centered Around Rednecks) but Sirius has signed a five year deal to carry it starting in 2007.

I talked to a bunch of people, seemed about the same as this thread, some people on both sides. i found it to be leaning more for the sirius side. I installed my sirius the other day and so far i'm loving it. Either way you go, it's way better than FM. I think it's well worth the 12 bucks no matter which service you choose.

Both are great, take your pick, personal preference. But once you get Satellite Radio, you won't even notice the billing, and you'll wonder how you ever lived without it. XM now offers its subscribers an included online subscription for your computer which is nice.

XM or Sirius. it depends on your tastes in music play style.

Prefer the Hit play style of the tired old FM stations? then Sirius is for you. Their FM without commercials and a larger selection of music types.

Prefer a deeper playlist? playing songs you don't hear every day on FM? want a few Hit Play style stations? same wide selection of music types as Sirius? XM is what you want. XM has a deeper playlist and larger library than sirius, always will. Its just their style of play.

Want Opie and Anthony (or as i call them, Idiot and Moron, they suck.... very badly) XM has them.

Stern? Sirius should have him in 2006.

XM has gone up to 12.99 a month now. get a 1 year plan and its 9.99 a month again. with the price increase XM gave you 202 High Voltage (O'n'A's station) and XM Online for free. Playboy radio still costs extra.

Which do i have? XM. at the time i got into it they were the only one capable of filling my requirement. a Portable radio unit that i could move from car to home, to keep to a single subscription. this was the Sony XM01!! Now i have a Delphi SkyFi2

XM is listening to their customers and cutting or reducing the play amount of songs most don't like and increasing the play rate of ones they do like.

Know the dirty trick of Lifetime? its for the life of the reciever, not the owner. wanna change the reciever... get a new sub!

Agree with the last!! Ditch FM. go Satellite!
