Talking iPod accessory box install

I bought this box from cardomain.com on-line store for $147.00 inlc. shipping. It worked out very well. I can control the iPod from my steering wheel controls, but can not see what song is playing unless I pick it up and look at it. The sound is 100 times better than the FM modulator that I have. What do you guys think ?

My web page with description of the install is at the bottom.
Here are some pics, check the web page for more complete install info.

now just get you some small velcro pieces to put on the back of it, and inside that little cubby hole, so it doesn't go flying out when you launch it hard....

So far the only issue I have with it is that if the iPod is paused you still have to push the play button on it to make it play. It will play from the off position when you plug it in it will play. I still enjoy the sound and the ability to change songs without having to feel around for the damn thing when I'm driving.

what is the part number on the item needed to hook this up to factory unit? I've had my ipod for like 1.5 months now and the FM transmitter doesn't work worth a crap in my car, it gets hella interference and gets very staticy.

Do they make units like those that are compatible with other MP3 players?

I'd get one if they do.

connectors for factory stereos I used the AB GM9, then you need the Pac Aux box or something that will plug into it and then to your iPod. All together it cost me $147.00 or something like that including shipping. It was well worth it in my opinion.

PS- It says you have to have the Tape/Aux, but it works with the CD/AUX.

I am sure they probably do, but I am not sure. The iPod is the only MP3 player I have. I would recommend checking out some internet searches with the MP3 player you own see what you come up with.

Sorry I don't have any more info than that.

will it still work with my cd changer? I've thought about getting one but it doesn't do me much good if I can't use the cd changer with it

Sorry to say, no it will not work with the CD changer unless your stereo is aftermarket and has 2 aux. inputs. Really I did this so I won't need my CD player anymore. My iPod has 200 CDs on it right now and could easily hold 500 more. I have 800+ songs on it right now. Obviously I only copy the songs I like from my CD collection.

edit: i found one of the units on cardomain, but it was $179 and you had to buy a $10 cable also. where did you find one for $147? thanks

well that makes sense. No need for the cd changer anymore. I was asking because I spent all this cash on a factory changer.. I guess I could always sell it

yeah, if you have an MP3 player that can hold your complete CD collection, as well as any you may buy in the future, you should never need your CD changer again. the only reason you would have for keeping it is in case your MP3 player died, or if you ever decide to sell the car and want to put it back to stock.

i have a 30GB Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra from Creative that currently contains my entire CD collection (240 full albums) that were ripped at 128k bitrate, and it isn't even half full yet. it's only somewhere around 12 - 13 gigs. so i can't really foresee needing to upgrade it for a LOOOOOOONG time to come. it will probably stop working before i have the need for an upgrade.....

of course, i will be using it in conjunction with my Kenwood Excelon KDC-x815 rather than the factory H/U, but it will also take the place of a CD changer, as the adapter i had to purchase to make the MP3 player work plugs into the CD changer plug on the H/U.

My brother just installed this on his jeep. It does keep the iPod charged, also he got it for cheap by calling around to different Best Buy stores in the area asking if any had an "open box" kit (that is how he bought his iPod too) and got them for like 50% off regular price because the box was open.

I tried Best Buy and the stores here did not carry anything that was close to being what I wanted here. All you can get here is the FM modulator, I even tried the radio shack with no luck.

The one he got was made by kenwood. to connect to his kenwood head unit. He had been looking around for a few weeks trying to find one til Circuit City told him that kenwood made it and that he would have to search for a place that sold Kenwood products. (of course Circuit City told him that best buy doesn't sell kenwood, and they do, so who knows)

Here are three I found really quickly. best thing to do is call the stores and ask if they carry the brand and part number you are looking for. Good Luck.

Hey, I just bought a 20g ipod and have a question for you.

When I turn off my fully charged ipod, I hold the play/pause button for a second and the led screen turns off. The problem is when I turn the Ipod back on after a few hours, the battery in half full. Am I turning the Ipod off the wrong way?

cool devise. I have over 1500songs saved. Is there a way to erase the songs off the ipod hard drive?

Battery is bad/not holding charge. The way to erase the songs on the iPod is to use the setup utility (that should have come with it) and reformat the iPod.
