Valentine1 (V1)
ok here is the problem. I hooked it up using the cigarette ligher = works fine.
tested the long 8 foot hardwire cable = works fine
hooked up the hardwire unit, black wire going to a ground =ok
red wire connects to the brown wire under dash,
TESTED when car is off = no power
TESTED when car is in ACC position( using volt meter) = 12.18 volts = perfect!
Looked at fuse = still good
Test in V1 unit.... no power. I dont get it... its there any way to check the end of the power line( the one that looks like a phone jack end) right before it goes into the v1?
maybe my hardwirre unit is bad? WTF is going on here....??
can i go to radioshack and get another hardwire unit to test out for the mean time?
Thanks guys!!

Look at the Cig adaptor and get the Specs there, or The Owners manual, or the side or bottom of the V1. It should be listed there
tried that...
Agg what could it be??

Yes. Center should be +12vDC. Outside GND.
I already posted that above

well i am getting 12.10 volts right before the unit, and still no power, maybe its a ground problem? 12.10 volts is enough to power the unit correct?
THANKSSSSSSSSSSS

Your first post says....

yeah but my V1 is not getting turned on with the hardwire... i am getting 12.11 volts, and no power
measured it right before it gets pluged into the v1 = 12.81 volts, then plug it in nothing...
then using the sig lighter, measured 12.81 volts, plug into v1, works...
could it be a ground issue, or should i try to buy another "hardwire" unit???
Given you have a good ground for it, I would have to say that its the box that the 8ft (telephone wire) plugs into. Its the only thing left.
Double check with the meter by putting the positive probe in the center and the negative probe on the outside of the cord plug to see if you have both power and ground to the detector.
so your saying that i need to check one of the two center wires and a ground wire one of the two outside wires?????!!?....

Hes not talking about a cig plug. Hes talking about the hard wire. The cig adapter works.
Either dont have ground or you have a bad hard wire adapter (the part with the fuse and the input for the ext cable )
i really think thats my problem... but i KNOW that everything is correct!....ill post up some camra phone pictures today....
I know the hardwire unit works, its brand new,and i am getting 12.81 volts of power through it. What is left..... this is freaking insane, and i thought iwas great with electrical systems... this is like basic 2+2 stuff....
Just wanted to say thanks for everybodys help, yuo guys are awesome...
now the solution!
its was....
that ******* hardwireunit! 2muchrice was right, really had it eliminated to that sucker, and my ground issue, but how can you really messup a ground on a unit like this. I went to lowes and bought a telephone jack walloutlet so i could test my voltages a lot easier with the wires all exposed wires in the back of the telephone wall outlet. Also bought an extra phone cable, just in case even i knew the one i had was not working.... once i found out that the hardwire unit was messing up the signal i ripped the freaking thing in 2 pieces and traced the problem down, one of the wire connection in the unit had actually came off the mini-circuit board! wow! Valentien.... your radar detector better not be the same quality as this piece! ahah! but yeah i just made my own 12+ power cord with the fuse, and everything works great!
also i wired it back into the ACC position, instead of the "hot" wire.
thanks again for everybody who helped me solve this problem, damm hardware! im better off making my own stuff then having other people make it! HAHA!
I apologise 98' MidnightBlueBird. I had completely made an *** out of myself with the statement I made.
Oh I see you found out the trick to easily test the cables. You can do that for RJ-45 (CAT-5/6) too.
