Default Has anyone put subs in the rear seat locations *UPDATED*

Just like the title says. has anyone done this yet. id like to see some pictures if they have. As I am in the process of finishing mine up in the next couple days. 2 JL 12's and 2 amps with a cap. IM going to make it as stealth looking as possible with alil bit of some some =)

heres the car...

still working on the enclosure but got a rough idea already on how we are going to seal the glass/resin with the mdf. I already had the sub in the back seats but it was just thrown in there, but had the last two days off to mess around, i wanted to clean it up and take my amps off the gas tank....

nice looking car. hatches allow more resonation of bass, so rear seat subs will need a hell of a lot more power to sound even remotely like subs powered much less in the hatch.

hey man, i built a box for my back seats in my v6. it looked real nice, i took out my seats and had it come straight up from the flore to the cup holders and go at an angle all tha way up to where it drops off.its easy if you just make a rectangle box that goes over that hump and make some panels to make evorything flush. mine went all tha way across and ran with the angles of the side. i have some pics layin around somewhere if i can find em ill send em to ya.

its not pretty yet but gives you an idea... it has 3 almost four cubic ft worth of air space. jl 12w3 needs optimal 2 ft per sub

no leaks in the box what so ever... and the sound is GOOD not even tuned yet for the new enclosure. you dont hear it but the house was shaking lol talk about sound waves. i love low bass

i had something pretty much like that in my old second gen firebird. but mine was uglier. 6 cubic feet with downfiring 2 kicker 15's. it absolutely slammed...

i too have been considering a rear seat delete enclosure in my '98, i've been told you will lose some output due to the loss of the cabin gain you get with the subs in the rear, but i've been told low frequencies and subtle little tones and whatnot are more apparent. most likely cause the subs are that much closer to you.

i can deal with having a lower output with the subs in the rear seat location if it means i can retain t-top and grocery storage in the rear. also i dont like the idea of sooo much wieght in the *** end.

That looks like its gonna be really nice. I would try something like that but it looks pretty heavy. Do you have any idea on weight?

Isn't as heavy as you would think. The fiberglass is Much lighter than the MDF. Figure (I'm guessing here) that the MDF is about 40-50lbs max. Fiberglass maybe 5-8 lbs. Not bad. Alot over say a Steath Box, but it is just a little more than say a Milhouse box. Plus with the Larger Box, the subs can play deaper.

I'm might try a single 15" P.R. enclosure in the Future. I really like how those model up compared to a Ported enclosure.

If you have access to a Belt sander, Smooth the edges out. Would look nice.

Round off the Corners to get rid of the sharp point.

If you want a good trick, Get some Really heavy Construction Paper, or some cardboard like what HU come in. Thinner than the Carboard in the pic. Cut it to make Trim pieces for the Sides. That would be a nice touch.

Just trim it till the paper looks good, Trace to MDF, Sand and trim the MDF to fit. Leave a tinny gap for carpet to fit. Pretty easy once you try it.

For the Sides, use a bevel cut to mate up on the Sub face. smoothe the cut edge, but the flat part against the Face leave as is.

Then, Pull the Box out, if you can, Sand that 90 deg back edge so the box sits flatter. The Bottom Front edge.

Nice Box, and Fiberglass work. Just giving you ideas of how to finnish it too look really nice. Keep up the Good Work.

alot of tips but too lazy right now =) that 90deg on the botom front lip is there for a reason. its meant to hold the box up at the angle it is in kinda sorts. and the leg, is what ill call it, sits right on the metal that the seat bolts to basically the box does not move the way its built. i dont have a sander but when it gets carpeted next week or so it will be smooth and then i will be build a face plate that actually hides all of it

thanks for all the kind words tho
