i just bought a kicker comp cvr 12" premounted in a sealed box from kicker i'm gonna start hooking it up tomorrow 400rms 800peak i got a pioneer 760W 380Wx1 to go with it if i can just figure out how to hook it all up tomorrow gonna be a long day i think i'll start it with 2 aspirin
i just got two mtx thunder 5500 12's and they are loud. I have a 400w-rms pheonix gold amp and i'd have to say, i haven't touched the gains on the amp and the subs are reall loud, SQ could be a little better but SPL wise these will do the trick. they've been holding up to direct sunlight through my hatch window while playing pretty well too.
ive always liked kicker and most of their products. the CVR subs hit really hard for their size, and the SL5 and 5 subs hit extremely hard for the size and don't take much airspace really. one ported <> 8 in my cousins truck hit harder than when he had 2 12 audiobahns.
Both are great brands, so either way you'll be happy. The Kickers play at a higher freq so you'll get more midrange bass which also makes them appear to hit louder. MTX's are supposted to drop a little bit lower for a more deep bass. Between those to subs I'd probably go with the CVR. But if your talking about any higher models I would go with MTX's (ie: 9500). Plus a couple shops I know have had problems with little things on kicker and JL subs (basically same thing) breaking.
yeah, kicker sounds a lot cleaner. would my amp be enuff to push 2 12" kicker cvr's? their 400w rms andi have the MTX 942 2ch amp. it saposably pushes 450wx2 at 2 ohms.
audiobahn is not the greatest stuff in the world , but its mid-low grade. Mtx amps will power it fine. Kicker has a better signal to noise ratio than mtx.......... mtx is rated at 88db and kicker is between 95-100

you could run my thunder 9500 with that 942 amp, its the amp they actually recommend. get at least the thunder 7500. thats the cheapest of their power subs, a 7500 is way better than a cvr. id get 2-10" 7500 in the right size box and youll be needing to upgrade the highs cause the bass is so loud. of yeah, my thunder 9500 weigh over 80lbs (just the woofer), and it handles over 1000w rms, thats 1000, not 100. and that amp is what mtx recommends...
i threw my audiobahns in their. i dont really see why noone likes them. the bass hurts my ears they they sound awesome at high volume and hit the really deep bass with no problem. im more worried about my back glass cracking not after i saw what it was doing. looks like its flexing around 1/2" in and out when i have the subs turned up. and plus it sounds good with the music i listen to (underground rock, hardcore, and metal core) so im just going to stick with thoes for rite now and put other money else where in the car.

audiobahn isnt bad, but only the expensive ones. i guess theres really nothing wrong with any sub, cause bass is good. it depends on what you want. the cheap subs arent good when you listen to them on high volumes for extended periods of time. i had a brand new set of kicker comps, only pushing 100w rms into each 12. i blew up 3 sets in about 4 monthes. cheap speakers just arent designed as beefy. like mtx's new superwoofer line, thunder 9500 (Biggest), 8500 and 7500, they incorporate a lot of new technologies like spider venting instead of venting through the pole piece. new materials for stiffer cones. power handling is a main concern, you want clean power. mtx makes amazing amps, i currently have 3 fosgate amps (4800 peak watts; about 1800 rms-921 rms to my sub alone). Another thing to consider is not all amps actually produice the power they claim. like a boss, pyramid, power acoustic amp thats rated at say 100w rms at 4 ohms is pretty much never going to produce that kind of power. look at what voltage its rated at, prob 14.4v, which a car hardly evers sees. forsgate amps are tested from the factory and come with sheets specifically for that amp tested...like a dyno sheet for an amp. some amps are also rated at lower voltages that are more real world. I also have a 12" mtx thunder 9500, 4 ga power, 5 farad cap, optima yellow top, 200 amp alternator, $500 aalpine components in the doors, infinity 6.5's and 4's in the back, crimpless connectors, stinger braided rca's, and a pioneer premier 8600mp. mind you ive spent around $2000 on my stereo, but its loud and clean.
id suggest you have the power to push the speaker to their max. like if a sub says it will handle 200w rms @ 4 ohms and you amp pushes 200 rms @ 4 ohms you should be fine. the amp wont always be producing that much power, and the subs wont blow at eaxactly 200w rms. cheap speakers with too much power will heat the voice coils up too much on long trips. i also like to run more power than i need. this way the amps not working too hard to power everything, cause i used to use cheap stuff when i was a teen, and it would overheat and shut down. its so annoying when your amp turns off out of the blue for 15 minutes, then turns on only to shut down again in another 5 minutes. i just think you pay for what you get...so you might as well only do it once instead of twice.
heres a list of good brands...

If you stay with these brands youll be good to go. also, check out discountjungle.net and car domain. they have really good deals on wiring kits, connectors, circuit breakers and what not. pm with any questions, not that im the best at this stuff, but ive been installing systems for almost 10 years (just a hobby), and ive learned a lot. the box i have i made from scratch out of fiberglass and mdf. its pimp. hope this help you man.
