Default front door speaker help

I could use some help on picking out some front speakers and deciding if i need an amp. First, when i bought this car it already had a JVC kameleon H/U in it. I dont know a thing about it..i dont have the manual for it and cant find it on the JVC website.

What i want is better quality speakers, but i dont really want to spend more than 200 on the speakers. What would be good options, and would i need an amp?

Thanks for any help.

I like alpine Type-S or JL coaxils both under $150, neither will need an amp but you can upgrade to one later.

I run type-S components front and coaxils rear and they are excelent sound quality, espicaly for the price

That JVC HU is a POS. Save some money, get a decent HU, then a amp, and some nice speakers. You dont want to run speakers on HU amp. It is bad for the HU and speakers, and makes music sound like crap.

I'd personally recommend component speakers. They are a bit of a pain to install, as I had to cut each door panel for the tweeter. Sound is worth the added labor. I have MB Quart 6.5 speakers. Good highs and mids. They have coax for under $200 as well.

components generaly have a good crossover(thing that seperates the mids from the highs) and better mid and better tweeter seperate ,from the mid, and almost always sound better. you can also postion the tweeters for better imaging.

coaxils have the tweeter and the cone in one assembly such as your stock speakers

there is no technical a coax shoud sound worse just worse parts they are all made with (marketing)

Blow Me is right, your JVC sux, but you dont need an amp with a good head unit necesarily, unless you get high powerd components

And after this im done- Schantin is right MB quarts rock but may be a little pricey

If you pay the difference for components, you owe it to yourself to buy a seperate amp. MBQ has been going downhill since RF took over. Gimme a budget for speakers and a amp and I will direct you to some good gear.

Yup RF used to hand assemble all their amps in the USA. Now a team of Chineese, Korean, Taiwanese, and Filipino 12 year old girls put them together. They make great BBQs now!

i dont really want to spend that much on it blow me faster.
i wasnt planning on going over 250 or 300 for the front speakers, and a little down the road i might decide to do something with the sub. I want to put most of my money into my suspension, and a little into my engine, and even less into my stereo. I just want it sounding better than it does now, but i dont need to win any awards with it or anything.
