amp is turning off

amp is turning off ok i was driving today and all of sudden my amp turned off, so i pulled over and check everything wires, battery,amp now the amp was not hot at all because it was at night and it had been about an hour and a half when i had it on last, the stereo (headunit) and other speakers would stay on but the amp with the subs will turn off then about 15 mins later it turned back on for about 3 mins then turned back off, oh and it has this red light on that says protected on the amp. what is going on is it getting to hot are what? please help thanks

yeah i think it was to much power because i got the amp to come back on but now the subs sound like ****, i just got them too now i guess i need to get more subs
they were 2 12's audiobahn and the amp was an audiobahn also

Check you ground a power and so forth. If they are ran near any points where you would have had to screw a panel back in, you may have screwed into a wire and that would cause a short or intermittant problem.
