LEDs or halogens?

LEDs or halogens? Are the bulbs in the radio and in all the dash switches halogen bulbs or LEDs? I'm guessing halogen because the face of the radio gets hot but just wanted to double-check. Also, if I were to solder in LEDs in place of the halogens, would I need 560K resistors or has anyone used anything else to yield a brighter appearance? Thanks for the help.

BTW, they are not halogen.

I did it all in my Accord before even in all the switches and I'm sure it would be the same in an F-body but it's just been a couple of years. I'm pretty confifent I can do it. Does anyone have a bulb chart for the entire interior? And also, I'm planning to do reverse glow gauges(just to have a close match to everything else) so are there any other bulbs that would need replacing that could be done with 12V LEDs i.e. turn signals, bright indicator...? Thanks for the responses and Midnight F117A I'm going to cheat and use your write-up just because as far as opening up switches it's an unfamiliar car. Thanks for the help you guys. By tyhe way it's a 98 Trans Am, and I heard that clusters were different from other years.

All lights on the gauge cluster can be replaced with 194 LED replacements... For my signals, I just put a 194 wide angle LED in it. Now it's bright blue instead of green.
Here's a list of all replaceable bulbs in any car. The tiny bulbs, you'll have to solder a resistor and LED on it... Probably 3mm LEDs.

I wouldn't think so. I had a 1993 Formula and it used 194 in the cluster as does my 2000. My guess would be that those 161 & 37 probably cross reference with 194 and "maybe" 74 bulbs. I have 74s in my doors and HVAC controls.

So, you might want to be careful about mixing and matching bulb numbers because more power causes more heat. Also, if you mix them you might get bright spots in the dash that look out of place.
BTW, none of these bulbs are halogen - they're just simple incandescent bulbs. In fact, the headlights are the only halogen lights on the whole car.

Thanks alot for the great insight you guys. If I buy 12 volt LEDs are they advertised as 194s or as 161s? What brightness and viewing angle LEDs should I get for the gauge faces?

PM me and I'll send you a non-sponsored website that has 194s, 74s, 3157, 1157, and just about ANY incandescent LED replacement bulbs you'd ever want or need. They'll have what you're looking for and probably cheaper than you can get them on e-bay.
