Get a locking gas cap, and if you have an aftermarket alarm, add a magnetic reed switch on the gas filler door.

Last year, during the hurricanes, I tried to siphon gas out of my car and my wife's SUV for the generator but couldn't get the siphon hose into the tank of either one. This was with the standard 3/8" hose that comes with the siphon pump. I suppose a smaller hose might have worked but I didn't want to be at it all day. I ended up taking gas from the motorcycles.
Hate to break the news to all of you saying to buy a locking gas cap but.... we used to take them off in a few seconds with large channel lock pliers and if that didn't work we had a pry bar with a stud welded onto it that would pop them right off. The channel locks would destroy the top section of the cap allowing you to pull the cap off the rest of the way without damaging anything, The pry bar would get it off but sometimes break part of the fill tube...either way they are easily removed. You wouldn't believe how many calls we got from people that lost the key or the key didn't work anymore. Punching a hole in the tank happens but not nearly as often as people starting up their vehicle and being startled because it was so loud..... after some asswipe cut the catalytic converter off of it.
