Since the time Mike Valentine first made the Escort back when it was produced by Cincinati Microwave he made the best there was. Now that he started his own company (Valentine One) he still makes the best there is. V1 for me.

I vote for the V-1 Also. Ive raced during the 03/04 One Lap Of America. 03 had us cover 4300 miles in 8 days and 04 had us cover 7600 miles in just 9 days(18 States). I have not gotten one ticket while using this dectector. I can tell you 80% of the racer's in OLOA use a V-1. You make your own decission. John

my Bel Vector has saved my *** countless times and friends too when they take road trips and borrow it. Protects as good as escort and doesn't cost multiple hundreds of dollars.

I like to perm mount my detectors (way to lazy to get it out each time, and a detector not used is a waste) so I'm not in the $300 detector market. Otherwise I would go with a V1. But staying with ~$100 detectors on my dash I haven't had a theft problem in 7 years.

I usually spend about $100, and within that budget I think the current Cobra's are pretty strong. They also have a built-in compass, which I find really nice. The only problem is that they are too damn big (physically).

I think the main thing people need to understand is how to properly use a detector in the first place. Proper mounting, and understanding what conditions are risky to speed in, are a better filter than buying the best. No detector is going to save you if you are by yourself and get tagged with instant on.

The V1 showing you where how many tags are coming from is a pretty substantial benefit.

I dont think the arrows are worth the extra $100, the passport does tell you what direction its comming from with different sounds. Not like I care where its comming from, im ganna be hittin the brakes anyways.

Lemme know what you guys think about the two, or if theres another one you like better.

just move down here to arlington, tx, we have a no chase policy, so if you go fast enough the cops wont bother you

i vote none, they give you a false sense of security

yeah i got tagged with laser a few weeks ago, and all the V1 did was let me know they got me with laser. what more could i expect. on highways though i never have had any tickets while using the v1, especially in jersey, where they use x band you can spot from miles away. but i think people with radar detectors do eventually learn when to speed, not based on the detector, i am, slowly but surely.

i ve gotrten pulled over a few times with radar and got off but without it i get the tickets

i noticed that as well.. the first two times i got pulled over i got tickets both times. when a cop came to my highschool to talk to the class a few years ago i remembered he said something along the lines of 'if i see someone has a radar they are just playing the game with me' so i wised up and the last time i got pulled over, i quickly took my radar and through it under the seat. that time she let me off moral is, hide your radar when u get pulled over.

A tropper once told me that if he sees a radar that he considered that the persons "warning". He almost always wrote a ticket if they had a radar.
Moral of my story is, install your radar so its stealth

Man I've got a decent radar detector in my car. It's no Valentine. But honestly no **** you want the best radar detector out there. Get a CB radio. Yes I know big antenna on car right. Man I went on a 2hr trip with a friend of mine and we had a good 1min to 2min warining from the trucker's on every cop. You can my a cb now that the hole radio is in the handset. My buddy that I was with said I could mount like a 2ft antenna real low on the back of my car like most of the vette guys do and i coul get about a 2 mile range. I'm just as **** about my car as anybody else. But i beleive I'm going to install one. Well I guess let the flaming begin

Oh another thing that you can do with one to. Is when you go through a McDonalds drive thru when you get to the window. Keep keying the mic on a off and the automatic window will go crazy. It will just keep opening and slamming shut.

V1, period. As good as any and better than most but SOOOO informative. If you're serious, add a laser jammer and you're set. That being said, all the gear in the world won't save you from a ticket if you don't
1. pay attention and
2. use your brain.

pick for radar - can't say it enough --- Valentine 1. There is no other. Best mod ever, bar none.

i have a cobra and it works very good around here since they only use ka. It'll pick up the radar about a mile away.

My V1 dims automatically, simply put V1 out of town and the X50 in town it has a better filter.
