Default Looking for a good deck

I am thinking about putting in an aftermarket deck in my Formula and don't really know what to go with. I listen mostly to rock with a little rap and want something that will sound good. I already have a full array of JL speakers minus a sub (which I will be getting sometime soon). I want a deck that will look good in my car. Any suggestions and pics would be appreciated. Thanks

pioneer and kenwood as far as quality put out the best sounding decks

alpines sound really good to, but usually if your CD isn't exactly perfect, the alpine units get pms.

Get one of the good pioneer premiers, or a decent kenwood and you should be very happy with the results

Just make sure whatever you get, and your installer will know what you mean, that it has at least 3 pre amp outs, and puts out 3+ volts.

I wouldn't exactly put Kenwood up there. Pioneer and Eclipse are my 2 choices if your budget minded.

After talking to my friend about stereos in my car he suggested the Kenwood Excelon X589. He said for the money there is nothing better out. I plan on putting it in my car.

I have a few friends that own a stereo shop and they recommended a Eclipse unit. I would really like to have DVD/Navigation unit but dont have the 1200 to spend on it.

I like kenwood, I've had 2 of their decks, but you get what you pay for, if you buy a 100 dollar kenwood deck chances are its gonna be crap. But if you spend the right amount of money and get a kenwood with the right amount of preouts and good voltage, you'll get a good sounding deck.

Premier 770mp can be had for ~$200 (I will be getting this one soon). Awesome deck (and good looking IMO) for the price. Plus has 4v outs if you plan on adding aftermarket amps in the future. I've ran premier HU's for most of my life and have loved them.

I'm using a Clarion DXZ745MP myself and have had no problems with it.

Consider what features you may want in the future... Is it worth it to get those features now..

I went through 5 head units before settling on the pioneer 860.

I would of stuck with the kenwood 889 (or 828), but kenwood's DTA implementation is really silly. It applies to the front, rear and sub speakers as a set, not individually.

The parametric eq was more hassle than it was worth. Especially without having proper equipment to take measurements in the car (ie, RTA)

The 860 was a good compromise between everything.

Can be had on ebay for ~$300 - $350.

I have always liked the Pioneer units. When I bought my explorer (daily driver) it had a low end head unit in it made by Pioneer. With some cheap pioneer speakers and some 10's that I have had for alomst 6 years now, that thing sounds better than my stereo in my Bird. I think I may be leaning towards eclipse but really havent made up my mind yet. Thanks for all the input.
