14.4V how?

14.4V how? I have been digging around seeing that most people's cars run around 13V on a normal drive... I've never driven a car until this one that didn't run at around 14V. Why do these things run so low?

might have a pulley on it.
guage could be off.
alt could be going bad.
etc. etc. etc...........

Most cars I've put a meter on run between 13.2 and 13.7 volts unless the electrical system is loaded down (or they have problems). If your looking at the battery indicators on the dash, I can see why you might expect >14V. As they are rather inaccurate.
