Default type-r vs type -x

Now I dunno which to pick, Ive looked around and it seems as though those type-x are overrated, and the type-r actually performs better even though it uses half the power of the X, ive also heard stories the type-x are'nt build well and that they have problems with the surround.

Any comments from people would be great

the first wave of type x's had large problems with the tinsil leads and most were returned. as far as i know, those issues have been corrected and they have no consistent issues anymore. at rms, the type x does perform better. but the type r can take more than the type x can in my playtimes. a friend of mine has had 2400+ watts on a type r without a problem (he's hitting a 149 with 1 12" type r on the new TL). the type r is also much more affordable. imo, the type r has much better value per dollar than the type x.

i totally agree with neil.. type X tend to be a bit over-rated, and for the money, the type R would sound better because they require less power but are still DVC... and if you are planning on using these in an Fbody, you'd have to make serious modifications to make even one of the type X fit... those suckers are massive.
