Default Is my subwoofer done for ?

The last couple days my sub has been making funny noises, so tonight I checked it out and found that the little center cap was coming off causing it to rattle. So I just took it off completely....

heres some pics of the damage....

I know it won't sound right without the center cap since it is essentially porting the box with it removed...

Is it possible to reattach it with some sort of adhesive ? Will it ever sound the same again ? or am I best off just buying a new sub...

The dust cap does exactly what it sounds like, it keeps the dust out of the voice coil.
You need to have it because dust will ruin the windings of the voice coil.

You can also get a little bit of cancellation from the rear and front waves because without it the pole piece will allow the two waves to meet.

I dont think its done for. You have a few options.
1. You can send it off to JL and have them seal it back up. or
2. You can try and glue it back yourself but the key is to apply the glue evenly

Superglue will work. I can't see the pic here at work so I can't comment on the condition.

If you are unsure of the Dustcap issue, some old school stereo shops still do speaker repair and have the glue needed. Other than that, You can see what a Re-cone would run from JL. It's not that much usually. Something like $30-70 and shipping.

I tried supergluing it and the glue doesnt seem flexible enough to last very long. Looks like I'm going to be replacing it... any suggestions what I should replace it with?

I would recommend selling it to me for the price of a warm Mt. Dew. . . .
I'll splurge and actually pay the shipping. . .I guess. . . .

Nah, joking obviously. . .
