I was installing an aftermarket HU today and I didnt tape ALL of the wires. Im an idiot I know. Well now I have no tach, speedometer, or trunk release. I checked every single damn fuse and they are all good. Any ideas why nothing is working now and anything I can do to fix the problem?? Thanks guys!!

Did you check all the fuses under the hood and inside? Almost sure you blew a fuse somewhere.

it could be as simple as some blown resistors, or... something more serious

I skimmed over the wiring diagrams right quick. It looks like the fuse for the gauges runs straight off the ign switch. Doubt that's it. Are you sure you didn't accidentally cut through a ground wire, or remove a ground point bolt. Nothing in the hu wiring should affect the gauges as far as I can tell. If you need any diagrams or anything, I have them. Let me know.

I definately didnt cut any wires. What happened was I left some untaped when I put them in and they touched and sparked. That would make me think I blew a fuse but they are all good. What is a ground point bolt. Also, "firebird", how do I find out if its a blown resistor and how do I fix that.

A ground point bolt is a bolt that holds a ground wire to a piece of the chassis. Thats not your problem though. If the wires sparked and then everything quit, you blew a fuse or possibly burned a fuse link wire. It's like a wire with a fuse built into it. Usually close to the battery or fuse block, and heavily wrapped. Makes the wire look like it has a real thick spot in it. When you checked the fuses did you use a meter or a test light, or did you just look at them. It really sounds like you have blown a fuse or 2. I have seen them look fine, but still have an open circuit in them. I would test them with a meter or test light. I have rarely seen a fuse link wire blow.

Nope I sure didnt use a meter or a light. Maybe I should just replace them all. I couldnt imagine doing what I did would cause any "serious" damage. But then again, all this came about on a simple HU install.

if its your dimmer, it could be semi-serious......... Check to see if any dash light functions work with your dimmer switch on the left side of steering wheel,......... who knows, could be as simple as a blown dimmer switch.

I got everything working now. I just replaced all the fuses and there must have been one blown even though they all looked good. Thanks for all the help guys!!

Good deal. I figured it was a fuse.
