yet another speaker question
I understand the ohms thing I think....I would like to upgrade compared to buying a single speaker from GM and I'll need a 2ohm speaker to sound best correct?
I have a best buy gift card, so id like to use that. I know its a pain to do but if someone doesn't mind could they look on www.bestbuy.com and pick out a good bolt in speaker for a 99 z28 front door?
Honestly when it comes to speakers wiring etc I rather do a full cam install then 1 speaker.

The speakers in the Camaro doors are mounted coaxially, but wired like component speakers. The tweeters are wired directly to the head unit outputs, while the woofers are driven from the Monsoon amplifier. If you want it to sound right, you'll want a speaker that you can wire in this configuration.
The Alpine SPS-170A's are a popular recommendation for the Camaro doors, because they are inexpensive, easily modified for bi-wiring, and sound better than stock. These are the ones I have in my SS. I'm happy with them. (Note: the current equivalent Alpine model is SPS-17C2)
A more recent popular choice is the Infinity KAPPA 62.7i. They already have seperate terminals for the tweeter and woofer, so no mods needed. They include an external passive crossover, which you'll want to use for the tweeters. The Monsoon amplifier has built-in crossovers for the woofers. While I've never heard the KAPPA's, the Alpines have better freq response on paper.
The Monsoon heads have a tendancy to distort horribly at higher volume levels. So if you like it loud, and your picky about sound quality, you would be happier installing an entirely new sound system.
Also, if you like thumping bass, you want to get a seperate sub woofer and amplifier. You are just not going to get alot of thump out of any 6.5" speaker.
If you're like me and want to keep the stock system, and just upgrade the speakers (or simply replace a blown one), then either of the speakers above will work nicely.

Note: Unlike the Firebird Monsoon system, Camaros have no tweeters in the rear hatch area. I recommend replacing the 4" stock mids with a decent 4" 2-way speaker. I used the Alpine SPS-100A's. It greatly improved the overall sound of the system.
Now I just need the time to install the Pioneers I bought for my sail panels. That's the only stock speakers I have left in my Camaro.

Right now I just have a blown front pass door speaker and would like to upgrade it all *not an audio head in car but do want to add mp3/sat radio upgrade speakers* but thats all down the line I just would like to stick somthing in improve my sound and be set for now.
Thank you i'm going to look at what you posted and maybe be brave with the Alpines and try that.
Thanks again so much!
