Default installed 62.7 infinitys in the sails

I gotta say I'm really surprised at how bad they sound. It almost seems like they are overloaded, they distort at a very low volume level with only mild amounts of bass. I'm literally turning the bass up and down for each different song, pretty annoying.
I checked to make sure polarization was correct, and I'm stupmed.
I know that there definatly an upgrade, but wow.

I guess I'll be putting new stockers in, never thought I would say that.

Do you have a Camaro or F'bird? I ask because the stock sail speakers are totally different.

If you have a Firebird or T/A, then there are two pairs of wires going to each sail speaker (one to each of the voice coils in the DVC stockers). You only want to hook-up one pair. Bridging doesn't seem to work.

I put the 62.7i in the sailpanel and they sound great. But I have a Camaro....I covered up the cut out area behind the speaker hole with sound deadening and the small square cutout under the speaker hole. I have a aftermarket HU and took out all the very low bass since I have subwoofers in the car. I drive around with the subwoofers out when I go to the racetrack and I add back some of the lower bass and they still sound much better than stock. If it is a T/A then I really don't know how they sound, but I do know only 1 set of wires is used and you wouldn't connect the tweeter to those wires since there is no highs to the sailpanel. I didn't use the crossover that came with the 62.7i's at all...The tweeter has a built in one and the woofer is crossoed over at the monsoon amp...I ran the wire from where the 4inch speakers are in the hatch, to the tweeter on the 62.7i. The crossover is not used in the doors or sailpanels at all. If it is a T/A make sure only one set of wires is used and only going to the woofer on the 62.7i. If you want highs then like I did, run wires from the hatch to the tweeter.

Sounds like you used the wrong pair of wires. Provide some more information about your car.

Year and Pontiac/Chevy + body style.

yeah, that would be funny if I hooked up the wrong pair or wires!!

Its a 2000 z, thought I had it in my sig, sorry bout that..

Yeah, no I've definatlly installed about 15 high end stereos on my past cars and my freinds cars, trouble shot the hell out of and and, yeah, just doesn't sound good at all.

I imagine If I matched all the other speakers in the car to the same type of output, it would sound alot better, but these things just can't handle any bass at all, and I HATE any type of distortion, which is kinda funny considering I'm putting stockers back in

Crutchfield is great, they take anything back!! you just pay out the ***....

I'd love to upgrade the whole system, but Its just not worth it to me.. I like the stock look and refuse to change out my head unit..

I can't think of anything it could be unless the amp is just putting out too much power to the sails, but I seriously doubt that.

Did you add the 62.7i's to the front doors? I am running a aftermarket HU, so I can adjust the hz and remove all the 80hz and below bass. I'm not sure what the crossover is set at that comes with the 62.7i's, but may be set to only play mid bass and may solve that problem. I never used mine since I can adjust it from the HU. I've always set my 6.5's to play 100hz up. I can get away with it set at 80hz playing rock etc...but on rap with deep bass 100hz up sounds best.

I put Pioneer TS-M7PRS's in my sail panels. They put out bass equal to the stockers with with considerably less distortion, in my opinion. At $200 a pair, they are a bit pricey, but I like them.

i installed my infinity 62.7i today thx to rotwiler's help! i only got to do the right side because it got dark and dont have a garage, so il do the other one tomorrow, but i replaced the broken distorded one, and when i was testing and comparing the new and old, the stocker blew out on me lol, i dont expect W7 bass from 6.5's, they give good bass and clarity and very minimal distortion at higher volume than the stockers. and i did cut the crossoover rotwiler. anyways the crossover is usless with stock system? or what? BTW My HU has that 80hz thinkgy aswell it goes to 80hz 100hz and highest is liek 180hz, whats the best setting? 100hz?

I sent you a pm....100hz sounds good and no need for the crossover at least in the front doors...not so sure about sailpanels...I didn't use any in the sailpanels, but I also have control over the Hz from my HU.

IF using them with the stock Monsoon amp, there is no need for crossovers for the sail panels.
