Default Battery Clamps???

I think I am going to use one for a power wire...Can anyone tell me how they work? I have an Optima battery & want to run one of these on the positive top post.

Is it "hot" as soon as you hook it to the + terminal?

They have 2 allen type screw for attaching the cables...Do you use eyelets to hook the cable in?

I am clueless!!!

yes it is hot when you touch any metal to the pos. terminal, you are safe as long as you dont complete a circuit (i.e. connect it to a ground somehow) human bodies are very resistive to current unless you are wet or have an open cut touching the terminal. so just be dry and dont cut yourself. it was a bit scary my first time messing with it but nothing happens, to be extra safe use some rubber gloves. also keep your inline fuse out until all the wire connections are made that way you dont somehow fry your amp.

are the optima's only top post? if so i guess this is a good way of doing it. as far as connecting it, you just put the bare wire into the hole and tighten with the allen screw. if it has side posts like regular gm batteries, then i recommend just using a gm adapter. they just screw into the side of it like the stock iron bolts but have another screw on top you can screw the O-connector onto. thats what i used and it works great.

Thanks!
The Optimas have top & side posts. I just didn't want to add wiring to where the cables connect on the side of the battery...Maybe I will track down a gm side post adapter.

like this?

exactly, mine looks almost just like that except instead of a nut it is a bolt that screws into the adapter, but yea works great!

I use the extended battery posts from StreetWires. You can get them at Parts Express and the part number is 263-633 and I use them on both positive and negative terminals on the battery. Then, I use the 263-625 (HD Ring Terminal) to attach the 4 Gauge to the StreetWires Posts. Here is a pic of the overall result.
