Post Looking for 3 Big Wire Upgrade

Hey, sorry for making a thread on this, but I got frustrated trying to find the write up on this. Anyway, I'm searching for the write up about the 3 basic wires you can beef up when youre drawing a lot of current from your system. I think the wires were: Batt to chassis, block to Chassis, and Alt. If anyone has the link or write up for this, please let me know. Thanks.

I ugraded the Battery to Chassis, Battery to +12Vdc Fuse Box and +12Vdc to Alt. I used 4 gauge wire to do this. Just follow the stock wiring. The +12Vdc to Fuse Box was ran along the harness that has the fan connectors.

Um Did you replace the stock wiring or you added on to it? I remember seeing a write up where the guy just added wires onto the stock wiring. Also, placing a fuse inbetween one of the +12Vdc wires. He said you could run it through the fuse box instead but something about it being better to just place a fuse inbetween. I dont know, any thoughyts?

Hey blacker, yeah the link you just sent me really helped. From what I can see, I guess both you and that guy replaced your stock wiring for 4 gauges. Which is what I didnt understand from the beginning, cuase I was like...ok so just add another wire while still keeping the stock wiring connected?
Also, just to make sure, I read some part on the write i lost, that when upgrading the power wire, I should fuse it instead of goiing through the fuse box? any thoughts on this"?

power will go through the wire with least resistance, therefore leaving your stock wire attached won't hurt anything cuz the power will go through the big wire with the less resistance. When I did my bat to alt rewire, I just rolled the stock alt wire up and hid it under the bumper and attached the new wire to it.

Here you go:

Innovative Wiring - Pontiac Sets

I have thier setup for my '95 TA and it is massive... Almost overkill...

I hope this is what you are looking for... For the money it is hard to beat... I especially like the battery studs... Much better than the screw-in 'bolts' that stock battery cables and some terminal kits use, as you are much less likely to pull the threads out of the battery using studs...

I did not install fuses in the new upgraded stock wiring. I used these parts:

StreetWires Extended Battery Posts (263-633) $6.89 each and I used 2
HD Ring Terminal (263-625) $2.50 each and I used 6
4 Gauge Wire - Red (100-194) $1.36/ft and get 7 ft
4 Gauge Wire - Black (100-196) $1.36/ft and get 2 ft

Total is $41.02 and this is premium stuff. I purchased all of the items from Parts Express. This is for the stock charging upgrade.

A more accurate statement would be: "More power will go thru the wire with least resistance." There will be power flowing the other wire, the ratio of current flow would be inversely proportoinate to the difference in the resistance between the conductors.

For example: The existing path has a resistance of 2 ohms. You add a larger gauge wire in parallel that has a resistance of only 1 ohms. The total path resistance is now 2/3 ohms. The current draw would be divided between the 2 paths. Since the new wire has half the resistance of the old wire, 2/3's of the cuurent will flow thru that path and the remaining 1/3 will flow thru the old path.

If you didn't do alternator/engine block to chassis you are still missing a huge link in the electrical flow in the car. It's really easy to do. Just pick a bolt close to the alternator and run a wire from there to the place where that braided line goes.

I have not done that one and will do, Dal1as
