Default DVD player and ebrake question

Whats up everyone i just installed my new JVC-AVX2 in-dash DVD player. Obviously you all know that it will only play DVDs with the ebrake up. my question is on my car 99 Z28 M6 i can pull my ebrake up one-two teeth before it does anything at all. Now, i am not going to be watching movies while driving but i would like my passengers to be able to. So, will leaving the ebake up just one tooth so the ebrake light is on hurt anything while moving (sensors, cables, etc) so DVDS can be played. i dont want to have to completely bypass the ebrake since i wouldnt pass inspection. Thanks for any help.

By bypassing the ebrake for indashes wouldn't qualify for inspection? What do you mean?

What inspection? All you do is tap the wire that's supposed to go to teh ebrake/light into either your power or acc wire

NO, you ground the wire. The parking brake switch has only one wire that grounds through the switch housing when the brake is engaged. So you can ground the wire from the player and it will think the brake is always on.

yeah i know how to do that, but do you think just leaving the handle up one tooth while driving once and a while will hurt anything?

No, it won't hurt anything as far as the parking brake is concerned. Lots of people do that to disable the DRLs. However, on the off chance that you develop some kind of problem with the main brakes you would never know until it was too late because the brake warning light would be on all the time.

This has long been rumored but I have been unable to find any connection between the parking brake switch and the ABS system on any of the wiring diagrams or service descriptions.

Anyone want to try it out and let us know?

No, as long as the parking brake is not actually engaged it won't cause any damage to leave the lever up a notch "once in a while".

I'm curious though...why wouldn't you want to just connect the safety wire to ground and avoid the problem?

how exactly do you do it?
I just connect the two wires from the ebrake right? so its grounded all the time and the light stays on?

No, you want to connect the wire from the DVD player that normally goes to the parking brake switch directly to ground instead of connecting it to the parking brake switch wire. That way the player will think that the parking brake is always on. You won't have to pull up the brake lever at all and the dash indicator light won't be on all the time.

depending on the model of DVD player, you may have to "trick it" with a switch

Generally, yes. If your player only requires the parking brake be set in order to play then grounding that wire will achieve the same thing.

However, jimmy 2 times is correct that some DVD players require more than just the parking brake set as a safety device. For example, some players require that the player be on first and then set the parking brake. Some even have GPS or other methods of detecting motion and won't work unless the vehicle isn't moving. If you have one of those players you will have to do something more involved to bypass the safety system.
