Thumbs down Road Noise

Looking to purchase sound deadening material. What area of the car should I target to reduce road noise?

I have the whole inside of my car dyna matted including the headliner. I would say the biggest difference is in the doors and the rear trunk area. I even put the left over Dynamat I had under the car in the tranny tunnel area when I had my tranny out.

Guess your car is Lexus quiet.

Was thinking of working up to having the whole car done, but was looking for a good starting point. Has anyone just done the rear wheel wells? How much of a difference did you notice?

Big. Trunk/doors biggest difference. Stupid spare tire area has some big, non-insulated holes in it.

I still need to do the cabin & headliner, but right now my new concern is wind noise and broken window motors

If you're not using your sail panel speakers and even if you are a trick I used that worked real nice was stuff a bunch of carpet padding back in there and sealed "both" holes with sound deadener. I also think this and everything else I did really quieted down my stereo outside the car. lol

I would just do the trunk and the wheel wells. everything else is just extra weight and not worth it in my opinion.

Dude, you gotta use punctuation!! My head hurts from reading that! Dynamatt is key...it really does help, and not too hard to install either. So you guys are using it on the headliner part hu? Hmm...didn't think that there would be too much noise coming from there, especially in a T-Top car...not even much metal to cover up there.

I had 2 bulk kits and a door kit so I just put it every where. There is nothing but metal over the headliner so I did that as well. The whole trunk area and the doors I think make the biggest difference. You notice a big difference in just shutting the door. When I shut my buddies door it sounds like a can fulll of rocks. Mine just makes a quiet thud.

I would be interested in seeing some pics, I definately agree on the whole "can full of rocks" sound .

Thanks alot bud, especially for pulling your panels off for the pictures. Here's my question though, it's been awhile since i have pulled the panels off my doors, but aren't there all kinds of holes and stuff on the door? Like i mean the doors are 3D in that the outer skin of the door can be reached from the inside of the door. So i wanted to dynamatt the whole thing...i guess i'm not sure what i'm trying to say, but i seem to remember my doors being more 3D than just being able to put a bunch of dynamatt on the outer side

I did my motors right before I did that. Its not bad to take off if I had to for some reason.

Slphawk300, I see what your trying to say. The door does have alot of holes. I just tried to put the mat on in a solid piece over the holes. Measure twice cut once type of thinking I guess. The hardest part for me was the big hole where the latch rod goes through at the far left of the door. I just worked a couple of pieces over the hole, then over lapped the mat and gently push it together.

I did the doors first due to I was still waiting on the rest of the mat to come. Just the doors alone made a huge difference. Granted this stuff isnt for a drag racer. It adds quite a bit of weight, but it doesnt bother me. I just kept adding more power to make up for it. So if I ever made my car a stripper watch out!

If you shop around you can get the bulk gets for around $125 and the door kits are I think around $50. Like I said I used 2 bulk kits and 1 door kit. I also did in between the tail lights and body on the out side just to let you know.

I think what SLPHawk300 is asking is that did you put any on the inside of the door skin? Or did you just slap some over the un-used holes of the inner door panel?

We posted at the same time.

I see now! I just put it behind the door panel. I didnt put it on the outer skin. You could though and it would make it even quieter. I think our doors are big and heavy enough though and I didnt want to add that much more weight to the doors.
