Default What does the "security" light mean?!?

I have a 98 T/A, stock alarm system. There is an amber light that says security on the gauge cluster right above the odometer. Mine came on yesterday and it has stayed on since. What does this mean

Vehicle Anti Theft System. Could be your key pelet is just dirty, key cyl going bad, broken wires from the cyl to the module... - basically somethings wrong and it's not recognizing they key. Try your spare if you have one. Believe VATS can be turned off with tuning, or even bypassed with a resistor. Saw a thread on this a while ago that might help, I'll see if I can find it.

Hmmm, well the light is on when I have the key in and I am driving and all, but nothing seems to be wrong with my security system, it seems to work alright. Guess i will jsut keep lookin around and try a spare key and see what happens....

If the security light is on it should of set a diagnostic trouble code.

Yeah when I get back home I will have to hook it up to the diagnostic tool and see whats up I guess. It's just strange, everything works fine but that damn light is on.
