Default Tach/shift light

I'm trying to install a shift light becasue i really dont know where to put a tach, so ive decided just to install a shift light right on the steering column. i have no problem wiring the power and negative wires, the only thing im having a problem with is i dont know what wire to splice the light into? can anyone help me out? thanks

What kind of car do you have? 98's you would tap into PIN #35 and 99-02s you tap into PIN #10 on the PCM for a tach signal. Both are white wires.
