Default Did I buy this for nothing or do I need it???

I'm installing a new HU in my Formula. I went to the car audio place by me for a wiring harness so I don't have to chop everything up, and the guy sold me a PAC OEM2 converter for the stock monsoon amp. He said the amp wouldn't work with the new HU unless I had that too. He works on commission, should I take it back? BTW did a search, couldn't find this specific answer.

When I installed my Alpine CDA-D857, all that I needed was the Metra Wiring Harness and an Antenna Adapter. It worked fine with the stock Monsoon System.

I saw that, but not all camaros/trans ams come with the monsoon amp, right? Also he didn't include the steering wheel control adapter, I guess using the steering wheel controls, like using the monsoon amp is optional. What I'm asking is am I forfeiting that option by not using the converter?

The OEM2 is only needed if you want to add external amplifiers to your system, especially when keeping the stock HU. If you are just replacing the HU, it is not needed. For the steering wheel controls, the PAC SWI-X is what you need.

So if I want to use an aftermarket HU, the monsoon amp for the stockers, and a different amp for subs, I should keep it? My HU has seperate jacks for using another amp.

Still do not need it. The RCA outputs from the HU will feed an external amp. You can run the RCA's and the internal amplifier for upgrades.

I thought the internal amp on most HU's was not as good as the monsoon.

Depends on what you are trying to do. So, what do you want from the system????? All I am saying is the PAC OEM2 is for stock HU's when adding an external amplifier, like a sub. If you are replacing the stock HU, you do not need the PAC OEM2.
