I had a K40 Remote until last year when I replaced it with a Bel RX75 Remote. The K40 was a nice unit that never let me down but was prone to false alarms. It also has no text or band display, just a flashing red LED - you have to determine the type and intensity of a signal by the audio alerts.

Remote detectors are expensive but are nice if you can afford them. You don't have anything hanging from your windshield and there is no temptation for theft. Also, the display isn't visible through the back window so you don't attract attention from police or get people following you because you have a detector.

There are better remotes available than the K40. The Bel RX75 and the Escort SR-7 both have text displays and threat counters but fewer false alarms for about the same price. You may have to do some searching to find them for over-the-counter sale because they are intended for professional installation only. The best deal I found last year was $550 but that store isn't selling them anymore.
