Default Navigation and In-Dash setup inquiries....

Does anyone have a setup that is flush mounted as opposed to the kind where it sticks out about 2" from the dash? I really hate that.

How hard was it to install?

Do you have photos of your setup?

What kind of car do you have? Camaro or Firebird

Ive searched here and cz28 and have came up with a few threads but everyone Ive seen so far had theirs sticking out a bit... I really dont want that. I want a clean, flush install...

Does anyone see what Im talking about? I just dont think I could live with myself if I had that kind of protrudment going on out of the dash...

I found this pic a few days ago. It's in a bird but it should require less modding than a camaro

That is a nice install! What kind of unit is that? The installer had to custom fab that mount?

Here's mine:

Protrudment doesn't really bother me... There's NO WAY to run a head-unit like this without it:

A) Not enough room in the dash to stick it further back even if you wanted to.

B) It wouldn't be able to flip out.

You could just buy a unit like this:

http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_6917.html#

and modify your trim to accept a DOUBLE DIN unit (which should be a heck of a lot easier than making a Car PC like the pics others posted)... Like this:

I'm trying to fit a pioneer AVIC-D2 into my WS6, but the installer doesn't think it will fit even with a custom molding, I have an appointment on the 5th (tuesday) so he can dig around to see what he can do...I'm hoping it goes well. Here's a Link to what it is: Pioneer AVIC-D2

It will always stick out some with any after market head unit you put in unless get get a thing custom fabricated for it. Me and my dad installed the avn5435 into my Trans Am and it sticks out a little, but it is the flushest I have seen an after market head unit put in minus the ones that had a custom one made. Pics to mine are on here just search for avn5435 and their is also some in the link in my sig.

Off topic - Project Kronos I don't see the problem with the AVIC-D2 fitting in your trans am as its a double din just like the AVN5345 in mine. I didn't hit anything or have any problems installing mine, other than having to make custom brackets and cutting the trim panel around the monsoon. I think it will definitely fit with custom molding.

In Reply: I went to the appointment. He said that he can make it fit...and he'll trim the stock molding and shave some other things...however he wants to charge $1000 extra dollars and have the car for 3 days to work on....the systen is $1500 by itself....the install just for that would be $1000 because of fabrication and I still want the little add-ons put on...but its getting way too expensive..Am i getting ripped off or should i go ahead with it all?

That's WAY too much money...

The pic I posted above was modified and installed for $475... and I thought that was reasonable if not a little on the high side.

Heck, you can mail them your bezel and they'll modify it for $300, then just install it yourself, really not all that hard.

Here's the thread I saw it in:
