Default Did I blow my amp?

Yesterday my system was sound fine it was hitting hard on my way to work and my lunch break. But when I was leaving work I had no bass at all. I have 2 1100W 10'' sonys hooked up to a 4X3 channel 600W sony amp The speakers were wired up to the rear input with nothing happening I swiched it to the front input on the amp nothing still. But I pu them back on the rear with nothing but it hit just one bass note through the subs then went dead again. Is it blown? BTW I just found out that the person who wired it up never put a fuse for the amp!!! If it matters i just put in a new battery and an alternater. This is in a third gen

Check your fuses. Your amp always needs a fuse. It would sound awful if you blew a channel on the amp. You can take it to your local electronics store and they will use volt-ohm meter that will determine if the amp is blown or not. But I would check all connections, fuses, and check and see if the power light to the amp is on. If none of this works, have someone at a local electronics store take a look.

It is quite possible that your subs voice coil is blown...If your amp is any good then it has protection and it will cut the power if you have a blown voice coil. If your amp doesn't have protection then it will blow fuses to protect itself. Get a amp that you know works and hook it up and if it still does it then you know it is one of the subs.

There are fuses in the amp too. Don't overlook those.

I seriously doubt it is the amp, I've had a similiar situation happen to me personally twice both times it was a bad sub. The first time i assumed it was the amp and bought a new one, turned out i wasted about 300$.

If you turn it off and turn it back on and the sub will hit one or two notes then cut off then i am 95% sure its one of your subs. Also look at your amp for the protection light if it flashes when the sub cuts off.

Thats what I figured the problem was, at least you did the smart thing and asked before assuming it was the amp....Use this as an oppotunity to upgrade
