Default Opinions on this setup: Eclipse & JL...

I've been talking to some self-proclaimed car audio gurus, and and based on their recommendations, I've come up with this setup (for a C6Z):

Eclipse AVN5495 head unit with 30gig hard drive
http://www.crutchfield.com/S-kkf8OVu...0&I=099AVN5495

It's the only decent double-DIN head unit I could find, and one of the few DVD/nav's that don't have the retarded flip-up screen.

JL Audio Stealthbox 10W3v2-D2 sub in a sealed enclosure, ZR-series front components and XR-series rear coaxials
http://mobile.jlaudio.com/products_s...hp?fit_id=1531

And a JL Audio 500/5 amp

JL is a little pricey, but everyone hypes them. Look up the eclipse avn -6600 it has better specs.... allows for complete IPOD control, and sirius sat radio. The HD feature is nice, but in reality, whats the point when you can have a 60 gig ipod and have it out of view. Plus you only get 10 gigs dedicated to music. the 6600 also has 2 slots which BOTH play cd/dvd, while the bottom one plays nav..... so generally speaking, you never have to take your nav disk out, still have a dvd/cd player, and have an ipod with unlimited music.

JL gets great reviews and probs because they are very clean. Over priced, maybe, but at least you are getting what you paid for. If you ever owned any, you woulnd't say anything bad about them. They are nice indeed.

Ditch the rears and go with straight front components the sound field will be much better. But to each his own.

i don't get why everyone says to ditch the rear speakers? just running the speakers in the doors, isn't enough. it doesn't have a "full" sound to it. i put jl 6.5 coax's in the front and jl 4" full ranges in the back, it's way better than stock. now im working on a new head unit, and some sail panel subs. i like the jl 6wo. but have been reading up on the 8's too...

everone says ditch the rears because it gives the easiest route to dynamic imaging. Its easier to create a sound stage that sounds like its in front of you when its really just in front of you. I personally like fitting in as much speaekr as I can and tuning it till it sounds good. you know as they say about dolby 5.1, the rear speakers are for chirping birds and rolling thunder.

Nice set-up! Can't go wrong with JL. They make awesome sound quality. They are a little pricey, but you get what you pay for.
