Default Red-Light accenting my car

First of all, does anyone know where I can buy red bulbs to put in my rear view mirror and my dome light? I tried using some red plastic things that wrapped around the bulbs that autozone sold, but um... they started smoking after being on a few minutes, so that didn't work.

Also, I'd like to put something under the passenger and driver side, like down above the feet. The easiest thing I can think of is red neons, anyone have any suggestions what to buy? I want to wire whatever I get so that it only turns on when the doors open... where should I wire them to?

EDIT- Links to ebay auctinos or something for suggetions would be great

get some cold cathode tubes. dirt cheap. as far as wiring them in, im not sure what controls the lights on the inside of the car, but i think its the body control module. ccfl lights draw a pretty low amount of amps, so they shouldnt damage anything, but be careful how you connect them.

no prob. ccfl is cold cathode flourescent lighting, also know as instant igniting neon. it uses a filamentless bulb, and an inverter (takes 12v and turns it into around 600) do a search for ccfl on google, youll get thousands of results. some one else here could probably give you some pointers on how to connect it up properly to get your the results you want

Is that yours? That's exactly what I want, except I want it wired (if possible) so it turns off when I shut the door.

yea its mine, I have it wired up to its own switch so I can have on when I want, as far as wiring it up to come on when the door opens, Id try finding a 12v wire running to the dome lights and use that for your power, jmo though.

I have the same thing... only blue. I also have smaller ones in all the A/C vents. I'll post pics up tonight. I too have mine wired to a switch though so I can control them. I know that my Autozone has a little end-cap that sells a ton of different colored bulbs. I did my domelight, reverse lights and side marker lights in blue, but decided against doing the ones in the mirror blue as I need some plain light for reading stuff.

15 feet, that's pretty long :o

You don't have any trouble with them overheating, or accidentally kicking them or anything?

End-cap? You mean little plastic sleeve like deals to go over the lights?

I tried that with rear view mirror lights, and my dome light, because didn't sell red ones like that. Today after the door was open for a few mins my rear view one (only did one to test it) it started smoking... it seems that bulb gets way too hot. I thought I saw some smoke coming from the rear bulb also, and the bulb/plastic was REALLY hot so I took it out too :/

I wish I could find red bulbs to fit the rear view and dome.

And how did you get the ones in the AC vents wired? Do you have wires running out of your vents?

An "end cap" is a retailing term refering to the shelving at the end of an aisle that's used to promote products with added visibility.

You can find red bulbs online at places such as autolumination.com. The mirror uses #214-2 and the dome light uses #561. You can Google using "bulb red 561" (without the quotes) to find other suppliers.

Thanks a ton. Autozone didn't have those sizes in color- I'll grab them online.

Edit- 6.99 a bulb at autolumination... ouch

They dont make any kind of heat, and they tucked up real nice so kicking isnt really a big issue.

I'm not sure. . .but I believe 00Z28 meant 15" or inches. . .never seen a 15 foot red light.
