Car alarms???...
My largest suggestion is dual zone motion sensors(about 135$ to add to any alarm), and a 2-way paging system.
Nothing can really stop a smash and grab, except keeping your **** out of view. But motion sensors(they chirp when someone gets within your desired range of the car), and a 2 way paging system helps alot for other types of thieves.
Suggestion:
I always burn a copy of the CD's I buy, then keep the original at home. It makes for a huge box of CD's, but it's a security net that you should do.
I install and use Autopage units and have never once had any issue in the several cars I've done them in including my personal ones (and they are far cheaper than the equivalent viper alarms.) Look into the 855/860lcd or 725/720lcd. (I recommend the 720/725, chances are you will never use nor need the added outputs the 855/860 offers, etc...)

but luckily i had an alarm and it scared them off before they took my indash monitor and my $1200 system....... i no longer keep anything in plain sight and i dont have my system any more (since i never used it anyways)....but if you want a good alarm i recomend a viper alarmwhen somebody steals something from me its not the value of the stuff that was stolen..the thing that bothers me is that some lowlife scum will steal from hard working people and not think twice about it i take it personally.....
