Question I-Pod Hardwire

Im going to hardwire my I-Pod through my auxilary input for my stereo system. Where would be the best place to have the wire come out? Because Im getting the wire that requires you to control your music from the I-Pod and not the HU. So it has to be easily accessible.

i would either go with where the ashtray is or the center council hold so that you could put the wire away when not in use, on my dd i have an ipod cable coming out of the ashtray in the center council, and I like that i can put the wire away when not using it.

How did you install it so it came out of the ash tray?

In my dd the tray can slide out, i guess if you needed to clean it, under it was the open space under the center council so i ran the cable under the center to the front of it then up to the HU. the tray i cut a groove in it just bigh enough to put the wire through. then slid it back in.

I ran the wire in mine out the side of the console. This way, I can tuck the wire away when it's not in use and when it is I can plug the ipod in and keep it in my center cup holder. Works like a champ.

hmm....interesting. Did you have to pull out your center council inorer to get the witre from the back of the HU to where the ashtray is or to get it to come out of the side of the council?

the cable that was with mine was pretty firm in build so i straightened it and just pushed it in and fished it out the back end under the dash i was able to push it far enough down to grab it with a few fingers when i reached around the back, the it was just up into the dash and to the control box that uses the cd changer connection on my pioneer HU

I took the radio out, plugged in the wire and stuffed in down into the dash until it popped out the underside by my feet. Then I grabbed the wire and started to tuck it between the floor and the console. Ill take some pics later.

I have a Kenwood deck, i bought a cable that hooks into the kenwood deck, into the CD changer part, and on the ends it had RCAs. I went to radioshack and picked up a headphone jack with RCAs at the end. hooked that up and basically wired it to my ashtray. took out the ashtray, put the wire into the little thing the light sits in and my ipod ( 30GB video) sits flush into the ashtray holder.

I used a Belkin iPod car charger, with the headphone plug in. I plugged the headphone to rca wire to that and the rca to the stereo. Then I hardwired the the charger to my fusebox. I tucked in all the wiring under my console, except for the cable that plugs in to the iPod (which is no longer the headphone plug, but the charger plug). Now my iPod always has power, and the volume control is disabled on the iPod, which I like cause I preffer using the volume control on the stereo instead. (It actually sends out a stronger signal this way)
