Default Car alarm goes off randomly...

I just have the factory alarm on the car but for some reason if I lock it with the remote and it arms the security system it will randomly go off at times. I don't know what the deal is but it gets annoying cause it does it at night sometimes and it will do it in parking lots and everywhere else. I don't know what to do to fix it but its really getting to be a hassle and I need a remedy pretty quick before I go completely insane Anyone had this problem before and/or know any fixes, tips, tricks, etc?? Thanks!

I had the same problem in my car. There is a vibration module located in the hatch, just in front of the spare tire well. There is an adjustment on this module, so you can de-sensitize the sensor. This worked on my car for a little while, but then even at minimum sensitivity it would go off randomly. I ended up just unplugging the wiring harness from the sensor, and problem solved.

Yea, sounds like the shock sensor. Turn the white **** counterclockwise to decrease sensitivity - if that doesn't work replace it or just unplug it.

third vote for the unplug here. . . motorcycles and ricers driving by would set mine off.

Alright yea I bet thats it cause I've noticed just about everytime it thunders very hard outside at night it will go off but I had never put them together but I bet it would be enough to set it off...Will this pretty much make my security system on my car nonexistent or are there other features to help protect my car from getting broken into or stolen besides the VATS system.

Try this. . .just to make sure!

Roll your windows down and get out of the car, lock the doors electronically (remote) and reach in and manually unlock the door. Your alarm should go off!

There is also the PassKeyII system. I've heard mixed feelings on this. Mostly from people who have no spare key and the resistor finally stops making contact inside the column.

Just ideas to help you feel more secure about the remaining system.

I turned the **** down yesterday about a 1/3 of a turn so I'm hoping that will fix it. It hasn't gone off since then but its really too early to tell as it only does it ever so often. Anyways if this don't fix it I'll probably turn it down some more and if it still does it I'll just unplug the bastard

I would think so or atleast the shock part of it...anyways I turned the *** about a 1/4 of a turn or so and we'll see if that works if not I'll keep going down till its all the way minimized and if I still have that problem I'll just disable it all together.

Mine started doing that and I just dissabled the alarm using the silly key on fuse pulled do the hokey pokey and put the window swith here and click there instructions for dissabling and/or turning on featres of the car in the owners manual. Now My car is just Keyless entry. Much.. much better and no false alarms and BS to deal with... and NO I'm not worried aobut it having no Alarm. IMO Alarms are useless. Everyone ignores them anyhow and it won't stop you car from getting broken into or stolen.

I never use the remote to lock the doors (my orginal remote from 99 still works fine) I always lock from the door.

? I have been told that the only way to breakin to these cars is to break the window is this true or false ?

Wow, blast from the past. This thread is 9 years old and is about F-bodies, not G8's.
