Well, i guess i'm a dumbass. I never knew there was a way to use the stock steering wheel controls with an aftermarket Headunit. I just went through a ton of trouble to get a used stock Monsoon headunit in my car because the original started malfunctioning.
Now I found the FAQ in this forum and I feel stupid.
But neways, where can i get the part that allows you to use the stock steering wheel buttons? the SWI-X? do most car audio places carry them?

You HAVE to buy either a Pioneer or Sony head unit if you buy the part from Peripheal. It is great though, plug and play. It uses the wired remote input that you would usually use if you were using it on a boat. Otherwise you have to get a steering wheel control that uses IR and it is line of sight. It requires you to mount the IR control somewhere as if you were pointing a remote towards the head unit as it relies on the IR receiver sensor mounted on the FRONT of the head unit. I have had to mount them in the rear of a vehicle or in the dome light before requiring you to run wires and make custom, time consuming modifications. Save yourself the trouble and buy a Pioneer or a Sony, plug and play, wired, 5 minutes to program, well, 30 your first time. Look at the Pioneer DEH-P7900mp. That deck is bad, full color, fine resolution LCD. You can download the covers of the albums you play and they display when that album is on. About $400 at Best Buy. $300 on Ebay. It may be too complicated for you but will give you ultimate control if you do Front, Rear and Sub amps.

SWI-PS = Pioneer/Sony (I got this one because I got a Pioneer Premier deck)
SWI-ALP = Alpine... some other brands too (I think JVC and Panasonic), double check that though
SWI-X = Universal, as long as your new HU has a remote control and line of sight, it can mimic all functions of it.

I have the SWI-PS as well as I have a Premier 880PRS. It works great. I also had a SWI-X with my older Premier 940MP which worked great as well.
