Mounting factory CD changer question ?
Mounting factory CD changer question ? Are the brackets available to mount a Delco CD changer in a car that originally was not built with one ? Is all of the cabling there to plug it in ? I get my 2000 Trans AM tomorrow but have the CD changer now minus the floor bracket - thanks!

The wiring harness is installed from the factory even if you don't get the CD changer option. You'll find the end of it taped to the speaker harness under the left rear hatch speakers. The front end is already plugged into the head unit so all you have to do is plug in the other end to the changer.
However, the factory brackets were welded to the floor pan only in cars that had the changer from the factory. The easiest way to mount the changer is to slip a piece of plywood under the carpet in the cubbyhole at the back and then screw the brackets through the carpet into the wood. The combination of the carpet and the wood will keep the changer from moving.

Here's a picture of what the "welded" brackets look like.
All the brackets are pretty cheap at the dealer.
I painted mine and screwed them down.

Verdad Gallardo Thanks for the info guys ... one question though. If I screw it down, what is directly under that "shelf" the CD changer sits on? Will the screws protrude and be visible from the underside of the car ?
does anyone have the part number handy for these brackets ? Andd possibly the large washer-head nuts that hold the changer down ? BTW, confirmed, one backet is used. At least on my '97 Z28 with factory installed changer.

Thanks for the link. As for mounting I have another idea that doesn't involve drilling holes in the floor. Double sided tape to hold the bracket down. The carpet will also serve to hold the bracket in place as the bracket protrudes through two slits that need to be cut in the carpet. I'm sure this will hold more than well enough but I'd still have the option of driling and screwing BUT only if I need to.

Update, the bracket that mounts to the floor came in and I installed the changer last night using double sided tape under the bracket. It holds strong! The carpet already has cutoputs for the bracket to extend thru so it was simple and I'm glad I didn't decide to drill!
I just had the time last night to mount my changer as well. I did the same thing with the double sided tape; except I had already bought the 1" squares. I cleaned the bracket and floor pan area with rubbing alcohol and I put like 10 of the squares on the bracket then carefully placed it in there under the carpet. It does seem to hold well. I will double check it periodically to make sure.
